The Bahamian passport is issued to citizens of the Bahamas for international travel. As of March 2019, Bahamian citizens had visa-free or visa on arrival access to 154 countries and territories, ranking the Bahamian passport 26th in terms of travel freedom according to the Henley visa restrictions index. Passport message Passports contain a message, to other countries stating that the bearer of the passport is a citizen of the country, and to provide him or her safe passage. A machine-readable passport (MRP) is a machine-readable travel document (MRTD) with the data on the identity page encoded in optical character recognition format. Many countries began to issue machine-readable travel documents in the 1980s. Most travel passports worldwide are MRPs. The CARICOM passport is a passport document issued by the 15 member states of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) for their citizens. It can be used both for intra-regional and international travel.
