Bagnell is a city in Miller County, Missouri, United States. The population was 93 at the 2010 census. History Bagnell was platted in 1882, when the railroad was extended through the area. The city was named after William Bagnell of St. Louis County, who operated a tie business along the Osage River. A post office called Bagnell was established in 1884, and remained in operation until 1942. Geography Bagnell is located at (38.229284, -92.605967). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , of which is land and is water. Bagnell Dam
Bagnell Dam (informally, the Osage Dam) impounds the Osage River in the U.S. state of Missouri, creating the Lake of the Ozarks. The dam is located in the city of Lakeside in Miller County, near the Camden-Miller County line. The tall concrete gravity dam was built by the Union Electric Company (now Ameren) to generate hydroelectric power at its Osage Powerplant. It is long, including a long spillway and a long power station. The facility with eight generators has a maximum capacity of 215 megawatts. The dam provides power to 42,000 homes. The dam also creates Bagnell Dam Boulevard, a narrow two-lane highway connecting the nearby Bagnell Dam Strip with Lakeland and US 54. The dam is named for the nearby town of Bagnell, Missouri, which was named for William Bagnell, who platted the town in 1883. Edgar Wirt Bagnell
Edgar Wirt Bagnell (November 20, 1890 – August 27, 1958) was a pioneer aviator who was a member of the Early Birds of Aviation. Biography He was born near McCool Junction, Nebraska, on November 20, 1890. He learned to fly at Newport News, Virginia, in 1915. He was in charge of the 191st Combat Reconnaissance Squadron but by time his training ended World War I was over. After the war, he worked for Glenn Curtiss as a test pilot in Houston, Texas. He later worked in the trucking industry, in the racing car business, in advertising and outdoor sign painting. He later piloted for a Mexican airline. While in Los Angeles, California, in 1926 he was a student at the Chouinard Art School. In later life, he had a job as a skilled machinist in Glendale, California. Francis J. "Reds" Bagnell (September 15, 1928 – July 10, 1995) was an American football halfback in college. He was an All-American tailback for the University of Pennsylvania, from which he graduated in 1951. He won the Maxwell Award, was third for Heisman Trophy balloting, and was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame. Inducted in 1970 to the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. He served as president of the College Football Hall of Fame. Bagnell passed up his chance to play in the NFL to enlist in the navy, where he served a 4-year stint as a naval officer. He had a successful business career as resident manager of Fahnestock & Co. (investment bankers) in Bala Cynwyd, PA and as a senior vice president of New York Stock Exchange from 1967 to 1970, followed by a long career as president of a highly successful energy company. John Bagnell Bury (; 16 October 1861 – 1 June 1927) was an Anglo-Irish historian, classical scholar, Medieval Roman historian and philologist. He objected to the label "Byzantinist" explicitly in the preface to the 1889 edition of his ''Later Roman Empire''. He was Erasmus Smith's Professor of Modern History at Trinity College Dublin (1893–1902), before being Regius Professor of Modern History at the University of Cambridge from 1902 until his death. Early life and education Bury was born the son of Edward John Bury and Anna Rogers in 1861 in Clontibret, County Monaghan, where his father was Rector of the Anglican Church of Ireland. Lawrence Bagnell (born December 19, 1949) is a former Canadian politician who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the riding of Yukon from 2000 to 2011 and again from 2015 to 2021. He served as a member of the Liberal Party of Canada. Early life Bagnell was born in Toronto, Ontario. A graduate of the University of Toronto, Bagnell holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science. In 1999, Bagnell was recognized by the City of Whitehorse with the Volunteer of the Year Award for his long record of community service, including terms as President of the Yukon chapter of the United Way, President of Yukon Learn Society, and President of the Skookum Jim Friendship Centre.
