Bagn is the administrative centre of Sør-Aurdal Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The village is located in the Begnadalen valley, about to the southeast of the town of Fagernes. The river Begna runs through the village on its way through the Valdres region. The river has a tall waterfall at Bagn. The European route E16 highway passes through the village on its way between Bergen and Oslo. The village has a population (2021) of 627 and a population density of . Bagn Church is located in the village. The Valdrestunet mall and the Bagn Bygdesamling museaum are both located in the area as well. Bagn Church
Bagn Church ( no, Bagn kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Sør-Aurdal Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. It is located in the village of Bagn. It is the church for the Bagn parish which is part of the Valdres prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Hamar. The red, wooden church was built in a cruciform design in 1736 using plans drawn up by the architect Svend Tråseth. The church seats about 350 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1327, but the church was not built that year. The first church was a wooden stave church that was likely built during the 13th century. This church was located about to the northeast of the present church site at Ule (so that church was sometimes known as the Ule Stave Church). Very little is known about the old church. Bagn Bygdesamling
Bagn Bydesamling is a small museum located in the hamlet of Dolven, south of Bagn at Sør-Aurdal in Innlandet county Norway. The museum is situated in the traditional district of Valdres and is run as a subsidiary of Valdres Folkemuseum. History The museum was founded in 1920 on the Islandsmoen farm. It includes the farm itself, a saw mill, a flour mill, and other furnished buildings. The museum consisting of 12 log buildings and a building for permanent displays. The collection was donated to the village in 1941 by Olaus Islandsmoen, a local politician and educator. Additionally, the museum has exhibition about composer Sigurd Islandsmoen and an exhibition about the author Mikkjel Fønhus. The museum contains a preserved farm, a saw with water stream and a neighborhood school with an original interior. The museum has also displays at the small farms Sandviken and Bagnsbergatn. Reinli Stave Church
Reinli Stave Church ( no, Reinli stavkyrkje) is a preserved parish church of the Church of Norway in Sør-Aurdal Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. It is located in the village of Reinli. It is the former church for the Reinli parish which is part of the Valdres prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Hamar. The brown, wooden church was built in a long church design around the year 1300 using plans drawn up by an unknown architect. The church seats about 70 people. History The first references made to a church at Reinli comes from King Olaf Haraldsson who traveled through Valdres in the year 1023 and also visited Reinli. It is believed that there was a pagan temple at the same location before the first church was erected. The first church was possibly a wooden post church that was built during the early 11th century. Begna (river)
The Begna is a river in Viken and Innlandet counties in Norway. The long river runs from the Filefjell mountain area through Valdres to the town of Hønefoss where it joins the river Randselva before it empties into the Tyrifjorden. The river Begna drains a watershed of and this is the primary river in the watershed. Along its course, the river passes through the village of Begna in Sør-Aurdal Municipality. The Norwegian writer, Mikkjel Fønhus lived much of his life and located most of his novels along the river Begna. Course The headwaters of the river is found in the Filefjell mountain plateau on the south side of the Jotunheimen mountains. Among the highest points of the headwaters are the lake Steinurdalstjern which sits at an elevation of above sea level. Begnadalen or Begndalen is a valley in Norway. The valley runs through Sør-Aurdal Municipality in Innlandet county and Ringerike Municipality in Viken county. The long valley follows the river Begna from Bagn to the lake Sperillen. The European route E16 passes through the valley. In the central part of the valley, the Church of Norway has a church which is called the Begnadalen Church. The main Begnadalen valley has several smaller side valleys that branch off of it. The Hedalen valley extends to the south and west of the main valley. Kunnskapsforlaget () is a Norwegian publishing company based in Oslo. Kunnskapsforlaget was established in 1975, as a partnership between H. Aschehoug & Co. (W. Nygaard) and Gyldendal Norsk Forlag.
