''Bagha Jatin'' is a Bengali biographical film directed by Hiranmoy Sen based on the life of Indian revolutionary Bagha Jatin. This film was released in 1958 under the banner of ''Bharati Chitram Private Limited''. This is the debut film of Bengali actor Nimu Bhowmik. Plot The film portrays the life of Bengali freedom fighter Jatindranath Mukherjee alias Bagha Jatin and his struggle against the British Imperialism in India. Dhiraj Bhattacharya played the role of the revolutionary in this movie which brought him praise of critics. Bagha Jatin
Bagha Jatin (; ) or Baghajatin, born Jatindranath Mukherjee (); 7 December 1879 – 10 September 1915) was an Indian independence activist. He was the principal leader of the Jugantar party that was the central association of revolutionary independence activists in Bengal. Early life Jatin was born in a Brahmin family to Sharatshashi and Umeshchandra Mukherjee in Kayagram, a village in the Kushtia, subdivision of undivided Nadia district, in what is now Bangladesh, on 7 December 1879. He grew up in his ancestral home at Sadhuhati, P.S. Rishkhali Jhenaidah until his father's death when Jatin was five years old. Nimu Bhowmik ( bn, নিমু ভৌমিক , 4 November 193527 August 2019) was an Indian actor recognized for his work in Bengali cinema. and considered to be one of the famous comic actors and villains of Bengali Cinema. Career His debut film ''Bagha Jatin'' was released in 1958 and second important film ''Monihar'' was released in 1966. He acted in about 60 films portraying the role of a typical Bengali man and was acclaimed by viewers for his natural acting skill. He portrayed characters of different shades in 'Ganadebata' (1979), 'Baghini' (1968), 'Dadar Kirti' (1980), 'Guru Dakshina' (1987). He was a favourite actor of director Tarun Majumder. Dhiraj Bhattacharya (5 November 1905 - 1959) was an actor of Bengali and Hindi cinema who began in silent films. He was also a theater personality and writer. Early life Bhattacharya was born in a zamindar family of Panjia village, near Jessore, in British India. His father name was Lalit Mohan Bhattacharya. He entered Mitra Institution, Kolkata and passed matriculation in 1923. He studied in Ashutosh College to study literature but could not finish his studies. Early life Shyam Laha was born in 1911 in Kolkata, British India. His original name was Kashinath Shil. Laha passed matriculation from Bangabashi Collegiate School.
