Bag-ong Kusog
''Bag-ong Kusog'' (''New Force'') was a periodical in the Cebuano language that was in circulation before World War II. Established in 1915 in Cebu, Philippines, with its bilingual predecessor, ''Nueva Fuerza,'' it was published every Friday until it ceased operations at the outbreak of the war in 1941. History After three centuries of Spanish colonial rule and in the Commonwealth period under the Americans, mass media in the country prospered. The period between 1916 and 1935 likewise marked the steady decline of Spanish as a lingua franca in Cebu and the rise of Cebuano publications. ''Bag-ong Kusog'' started out as a Spanish–Cebuano bi-weekly publication named ''Nueva Fuerza''. Vicente Rama
Vicente Rama (June 6, 1887 – December 24, 1956) was a Filipino Visayan legislator, publisher, and writer from Cebu, Philippines. Recognized as the Father of Cebu City, he authored the bill for its cityhood which was approved into law by October 20, 1936. He also founded the leading pre-war Cebuano periodical, '' Bag-ong Kusog''. Early life Vicente Rama, also known with the honorific title, Don Vicente and Nyor Inting, was born in Cebu, Philippines on June 6, 1887. He was the eldest child of Bernabe "Abi" Raffiñan and Engilberta "Iya Bita" Ramas, who was the child of Laurente Ramas and Juana Enguio from Naga. Gardeopatra Gador Quijano (April 27, 1918 – May 3, 2003) was a Filipino Visayan dentist, teacher, writer, and fiction author known for her novel, ''Lourdes'', which is regarded as the first feminist novel written in the Cebuano language. Maximino Noel
Maximino Jaen Noel (May 29, 1879 – July 6, 1969) was a Filipino politician and the longest-serving congressman from Cebu, Philippines. Representing Cebu's 3rd district, he was a member of the House of Representatives from 1928 to 1934, 1945 to 1949 and 1953 to 1965. He was a member of the National Assembly from 1938 to 1941. Early life and education Maximino Noel was born to parents Florencio Mercado Noel and Filomena Jaen in Carcar, Cebu on May 29, 1879. His father was the first municipal president (equivalent of mayor) of Carcar, and so was his brothers Vicente and Mariano who succeeded his father. He attended Liceo de Manila and took up Commerce.
