The Baeksang Arts Awards (), also known as the Paeksang Arts Awards, are awards for excellence in film, television and theatre in South Korea. The awards were first introduced in 1965 by Chang Key-young, the founder of the Hankook Ilbo newspaper, whose pen name was "Baeksang". It was established for the development of Korean popular culture and art and for enhancing the morale of artists. They are regarded as one of the most prestigious entertainment awards in South Korea. Baeksang Arts Awards are annually presented at a ceremony organised by Ilgan Sports and JTBC Plus, affiliates of JoongAng Ilbo, usually in the second quarter of each year, in Seoul. It is the only comprehensive awards ceremony in the country, recognising excellence in film, television and theatre. ''Forbidden Quest'' () is a 2006 South Korean period drama film about a scholar during the Joseon Dynasty who begins to write erotic novels, and becomes the lover of the King's favorite concubine. The film has not been released in Europe or America, and is only available on region 3 DVDs since May 27, 2006. Plot At the start of the film, Kim Yoon-seo, an Inspections officer (police inspector) is seen at his home where his brother has been beaten almost to death. ''Hello Ghost'' () is a 2010 South Korean comedy film about a man's multiple suicide attempts. After the most recent one, he discovers he can see a group of ghosts. The ghosts agree to leave him alone under the condition that he fulfill their requests. The film was the 9th highest grossing Korean film in 2010, with a total of 3,042,021 admissions nationwide. ''The Chosun Ilbo'' commented that the film was good for families. Cha Tae-hyun found his role challenging, especially because it required him to smoke cigarettes, which he does not do in real life. Kim Young-tak
Kim Young-tak (born 1976) is a South Korean film director and screenwriter. Kim wrote and directed the comedy film ''Hello Ghost'' (2010). The comedy was a local hit - the 9th highest grossing Korean film in 2010, and won him the Best New Director (Film) at the 47th Baeksang Arts Awards in 2011. In 2018, Kim released the thriller novel ''Gomtang'' about a timetraveller who travels from 2063 to Busan of 2019 and is confronted with series of murders there. ''The Chaser'' () is a 2008 South Korean action thriller film starring Kim Yoon-seok and Ha Jung-woo. It was directed by Na Hong-jin in his directorial debut. Inspired by real-life Korean serial killer Yoo Young-chul, certain scenes were shot on location around Mangwon-dong in the Mapo District, Seoul. Plot Joong-ho is a dishonest ex-detective turned pimp who is in financial trouble because two of his prostitutes have gone missing. One night, he commands Mi-jin to service a customer, despite her protests over her sickness. Joong-ho then realizes this customer was the last to see his missing girls. Believing that this customer is trafficking his women, Joong-ho nevertheless sends Mi-jin in so that she can forward the customer's address to him.
