The 2007 Summer Universiade officially known as the XXIV Summer Universiade and commonly known as Bangkok Universiade, was an international Multi-sport event, multi-sport for university athletes that took place from 8 to 18 August 2007 in Bangkok, Thailand, with preliminary events in some sports beginning on 7 August. Bidding process In 2003, FISU officially confirmed five candidate cities: * Bangkok, Thailand * Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei * Monterrey, Mexico * Poznań, Poland * Saskatoon, Canada Bangkok, Saskatoon, Poznań, Kaohsiung and Monterrey were the five candidate cities. Zhang Wei (badminton, Born 1987)
Zhang Wei (, born 2 February 1987) is a former China, Chinese badminton player. He was the men's doubles champion at the 2004 Chinese National Badminton Championships, National Championships partnered with Sang Yang. He was selected to join the national junior team competed at the 2005 Asian Junior Badminton Championships, 2005 Asian Junior Championships in Jakarta, and won three silver medals. He then won the bronze medal in the senior level at the 2006 Asian Badminton Championships, 2006 Asian Championships in the mixed doubles event partnered with Yu Yang (badminton), Yu Yang. Salakjit Ponsana
Salakjit Ponsana ( th, สลักจิต พลสนะ; , born 14 February 1984) is a Thai retired badminton player. She competed in the women's singles event at the 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing Olympics. Her brother, Boonsak Ponsana is also a Thai olympian. Career Ponsana played badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics, defeating Miho Tanaka of Japan in the first round but losing to Gong Ruina of China in the round of 16. In 2008, she was defeated in the second round by Zhang Ning of China with the score 23–21, 17–21, 7–21. Ponsana also competed at the Asian Games in 2002, 2006, and 2010, and won the 2010 women's team silver medal. At the Southeast Asian Games, she has collected 3 gold, 3 silver, and 3 bronze medals from 2001 to 2011. Ponsana graduated with a bachelor's degree in law from Sripatum University, and she is studying there to earn her master's in Management. Yoo Yeon-Seong
Yoo Yeon-seong (; born 19 August 1986) is a South Korean professional badminton player. He specializes in doubles events and was ranked as high as No. 2 worldwide with his former partner, Ko Sung-hyun. The two also competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics. For a long time he played mixed doubles with Kim Min-jung, but later switched partners to play with Jang Ye-na, starting in 2011. Starting in late 2013, his men's doubles partner was Lee Yong-dae. Together, they reached a world ranking of No.1 in August 2014. Kunchala Voravichitchaikul ( th, กุลชลา วรวิจิตรชัยกุล; born 14 November 1984) is an internationally elite badminton player from Thailand. She competed at the 2006, 2010 and 2014 Asian Games. Kunchala Voravichitchaikul is a doubles specialist who is paired with Duanganong Aroonkesorn in women's doubles and Songphon Anugritayawon in mixed doubles. She is a veteran of one World Championship, the 2010 Paris Worlds where she failed to make the quarter-finals in both events. (She also entered the 2009 Hyderabad Worlds with Anugritayawon, but withdrew before competition began.) Zhang Dan (; born 16 January 1982) is a Chinese badminton player and in 2008 she started representing Macau. Career Zhang was specialized in women's doubles and mixed doubles, earning numerous international titles in both events. At the 2005 World Championships tournament she took a bronze in women's doubles with Zhang Yawen. At the 2007 Summer Universiade she took a silver medal with the Chinese mixed team and two individual bronze medals in women's doubles with Wang Lin and in mixed doubles with Chen Hong. Tian Qing (; born 19 August 1986) is a Chinese badminton player specializing in doubles. Career Tian Qing started to practice badminton with her father Tian Jianyi who also a badminton coach in Anhua Sports School at aged 7. In 1998, she moved to Hunan Province Sports School and in 2004, she competed at the World Junior Championships and win gold in the girls' doubles event teamed-up with Yu Yang. Pan Pan (; born 27 April 1986) is a retired Chinese professional badminton player. With her partner Tian Qing, they managed to reach the fifth position in the world rankings. She retired in 2012 to be an assistant coach in Chinese Badminton Association. She married Xu Chen in mid-2011. Chien Yu-chin (; born 24 October 1982) is a Taiwanese former badminton player. Summer Olympics Chien competed for Chinese Taipei in the 2004 Olympics in the women's doubles with partner Cheng Wen-hsing. They defeated Helen Nichol and Charmaine Reid of Canada in the first round but were defeated by Hwang Yu-mi and Lee Hyo-jung of South Korea in the round of 16. At the 2008 Summer Olympics, again with Cheng, they lost to Wei Yili and Zhang Yawen of China in the quarter-finals.
