Badhwar Park
Badhwar Park is the residential complex of the Indian Central Railway and Western Railway officers. It is located at Wodehouse Road in Cuffe Parade. The colony is situated along the coastline. The complex has been aptly named after Shri Fateh Chand Badhwar, the first Indian chairman of the Indian Railway Board. Shri Omprakash Rai is the IOW of Badhwar Park. In the past, after its inception in 1925, all chairmen of the Railway Board had been Britons. The beautiful, lush green complex has a club with sports facilities (two lawn tennis courts, two badminton courts, gymnasium, swimming pool, billiards and pool), library etc. The club has coaching facilities for many sports and martial arts. Badhwar Park can be reached from Churchgate or Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) railway station by catching bus no 138 starting from CST (via Churchgate). Central Railway (abbreviated CR) is one of the 19 zones of Indian Railways. Its headquarters is in Mumbai at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. Cuffe Parade
Cuffe Parade is a historic and significant business district of the city of Mumbai, India. It is home to a collection of commercial and office high-rises. It is bordered to the north by Nariman Point which, along with Cuffe Parade, forms the greater CBD region of the city. History Cuffe Parade was named after T. W. Cuffe of the Bombay City Improvement Trust, which reclaimed around 75,000 m² on the western shore of Colaba. Much of Cuffe Parade was developed on reclaimed land in the 1960s, with many of the buildings over thirty storeys high. Prior to the mid 2000s, some of the tallest buildings in South Asia were located in Cuffe Parade. Fateh Chand Badhwar
Fateh Chand Badhwar OBE (1900 – 10 October 1995) was an Indian civil servant and the first Indian to become Chairman of the Railway Board. Early life and education Badhwar's father was an officer in the Indian Civil Service. He completed his schooling from Sherwood College in Nainital and later went on to study Mechanical Science Tripos at Cambridge University. Career Badhwar began his career as a marine engineer, working in several European countries on marine civil engineering projects after completing his engineering degree at Cambridge. In June 1925, he joined the East Indian Railway at Calcutta where he became one of the first Indian recruits in the technical services of the railways. In his early years in the railways he was assigned to several civil works including the laying of new lines and bridges and he had a stint at Liluah's Carriage and Wagons workshop. Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus
Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (officially Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Bombay station code: CSMT ( mainline)/ST (suburban)), is a historic railway terminus and UNESCO World Heritage Site in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. The terminus was designed by a British born architectural engineer Frederick William Stevens from an initial design by Axel Haig, in an exuberant Italian Gothic style. Its construction began in 1878, in a location south of the old Bori Bunder railway station,Page 64 and was completed in 1887, the year marking 50 years of Queen Victoria's rule. Colaba Railway Station
Colaba Railway Station was a railway station on the Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway (BB&CI) located in Colaba in then South Bombay (now South Mumbai.) The original BB&CI terminus was at Grant Road. This was subsequently extended to Churchgate in 1870 and to Colaba, at the southern tip of the island, in 1873. However, by the 1920s, the Government of Bombay ordered the Railway to hand over the section between Churchgate and Colaba to facilitate the development of Backbay Reclamation project, now Nariman Point. After the new Bombay Central station was opened in 1930, the line between Churchgate and Colaba was closed and removed. Churchgate
Churchgate (Marathi pronunciation: ͡ʃəɾt͡ʃɡeːʈ is an area in South Mumbai. During the eighteenth and up to the mid-19th century, Mumbai was a walled city. The city walls had three gates, and Churchgate, named after St. Thomas Cathedral, Mumbai was one of the gates. The gate was situated near the present day location of Flora Fountain. In the mid-19th century, the city walls were torn down to aid in the expansion program. Arabian Sea is situated at west and Nariman Point on south of Churchgate.
