''Back to the Streets of San Francisco'' is a 1992 American made-for-television crime drama film based on the 1972–1977 series ''The Streets of San Francisco''. It stars Karl Malden as police detective Mike Stone and Darleen Carr as his daughter Jeannie, both cast members of the original show. It was directed by Mel Damski and broadcast on NBC on January 27, 1992. Plot Mike Stone, newly promoted to Captain of Inspectors, must solve the murder of his old partner, Steve Keller (played in the original series by Michael Douglas, who chose not to appear in the film). Flashbacks of Keller appear from the original show, and he is shown in a framed picture on Stone's desk. At the same time, Stone is trying to decide which of two competing inspectors, Sarah Burns or David O'Connor, should take his place as the lieutenant in charge of homicide. Melvin Damski (born July 21, 1946 in New York, New York) is an American director and producer of film and television. Life and career Mel Damski (born in New York, New York) is an American film director and film producer. Damski has Northern European Jewish heritage, one of four children of German refugee parents. Damski grew up in Roslyn, Long Island, New York and attended Colgate University on a football scholarship. He was a reporter for Long Island ''Newsday'' before moving to Los Angeles to attend the AFI Conservatory in 1972. Damski was the Producing-Director of ''Psych''. In addition to his long directing career, including 29 movies and scores of episodes, he has taught film and television at NYU, USC and AFI. He is also President of Lyrique Wine Company, a small family owned winery. ''The Streets of San Francisco'' is a television crime drama filmed on location in San Francisco and produced by Quinn Martin, Quinn Martin Productions, with the first season produced in association with Warner Bros. Television (QM produced the show on its own for the remainder of its run). It starred Karl Malden and Michael Douglas as two homicide Inspectors in San Francisco. The show ran for five seasons, between 1972 and 1977, on American Broadcasting Company, ABC, amassing a total of 119 60-minute episodes. Douglas left the series at the start of its final season, and was replaced by Richard Hatch (actor), Richard Hatch. William David Daniels (born March 31, 1927) is an American actor, who is best known for his television roles, notably as Mark Craig in the drama series '' St. Elsewhere'', for which he won two Primetime Emmy Awards; the voice of KITT in the television series ''Knight Rider''; and as George Feeny in the sitcom ''Boy Meets World'', which earned him four People's Choice Award nominations. Paul Benjamin (February 4, 1938 – June 28, 2019) was an American actor whose career spanned six decades. Benjamin appeared in dozens of films and television shows beginning in the late 1960s. Biography Born to Fair, a Baptist preacher (1890–1950) and Rosa Benjamin (née Butler; 1895–1940) in Pelion, South Carolina, Benjamin was the youngest of 12 children. Benjamin moved to Columbia, South Carolina with an older brother after the death of his parents. Benjamin attended C.A. Johnson High School and later enrolled at Benedict College.
