Bacilos
Bacilos is a music group based in Miami, Florida, US. A leading practitioner of latin pop, the band had several hits on the Billboard Latin charts and had considerable success in the Latin Grammies, most notably, their album '' Caraluna'' which won the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album, and album ''Sin Vergüenza'' which was nominated in 2005 for the same award. Band history The band was formed in 1997 by three students of the University of Miami. Originally a quartet, the band drew influences from Cuban folk singer Silvio Rodríguez and Argentinian rock singer Fito Páez. The band eventually became a trio consisting of Colombian singer and guitarist Jorge Villamizar, Brazilian bassist André Lopes and Puerto Rican percussionist José Javier Freire before releasing an independent album ''Madera'' in 1999. Jorge Villamizar
Jorge Alberto Villamizar Iregui (born 14 October 1970) is a Colombian musician, singer and composer, leader of the band Bacilos, and one of the most representative Latin American singers. Villamizar came to prominence as the lead member of the band Bacilos. Bacilos released their album ''Madera'' in 1999, and in 2000 they recorded their first album with Warner Music, which was nominated for a Latin Grammy award for Best New Artist. '' Caraluna'' (2002) was released and won a Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album, and Villamizar was awarded a Latin Grammy for Best Tropical Song for the second single "Mi Primer Millón". The album '' Sin Vergüenza'' won a Latin Grammy and the track "Pasos de Gigante" became the band's only top ten single in the ''Billboard'' Top Latin Songs, which peaked at number eight. The winners of the Second Annual Latin Grammy Awards were announced during a press conference on Tuesday, October 30, 2001 at the Conga Room in Los Angeles, California. The conference, which was broadcast live on the internet, was hosted by Jimmy Smits and Paul Rodriguez. Alejandro Sanz was the big winner winning four awards including Album of the Year.
