Bachir Mustafa Sayed
Bachir (foaled 8 March 1997) is an Irish Thoroughbred racehorse and sire (horse), sire. In a racing career which lasted from July 1999 until August 2000 he won five of his ten races and recorded major victories in four different countries. As a juvenile in 1999 he showed top-class form by winning the Richmond Stakes and finishing third in both the Prix Morny and Prix de la Salamandre. In the following spring he was sent to Dubai where he won the UAE 2000 Guineas before returning to Europe to take the Poule d'Essai des Poulains and the Irish 2000 Guineas. He ran disappointingly in two subsequent races and was retired from racing at the end of the year. Bachir has stood as a breeding stallion in Ireland and Japan but has made little impact as a sire of winners. Desert Style
A desert is a barren area of landscape where little precipitation occurs and, consequently, living conditions are hostile for plant and animal life. The lack of vegetation exposes the unprotected surface of the ground to denudation. About one-third of the land surface of the Earth is arid or semi-arid. This includes much of the polar regions, where little precipitation occurs, and which are sometimes called polar deserts or "cold deserts". Deserts can be classified by the amount of precipitation that falls, by the temperature that prevails, by the causes of desertification or by their geographical location. Deserts are formed by weathering processes as large variations in temperature between day and night put strains on the rocks, which consequently break in pieces. Although rain seldom occurs in deserts, there are occasional downpours that can result in flash floods.
