Baboon Strength
''Baboon Strength'' is a 2008 album by jazz guitarist Charlie Hunter. "I brought some decent songs and tried not to overplay. It's a never-ending process," said Hunter of the record. It marks the culmination of Hunter's more eclectic fusion recordings; future records would follow a more straightforward blues/R&B pattern. Charlie Hunter
Charlie Hunter (born May 23, 1967) is an American guitarist, composer, and bandleader. First coming to prominence in the early 1990s, Hunter plays custom-made seven- and eight-string guitars on which he simultaneously plays bass lines, chords, and melodies. Critic Sean Westergaard described Hunter's technique as "mind-boggling...he's an agile improviser with an ear for great tone, and always has excellent players alongside him in order to make great music, not to show off." Hunter's technique is rooted in the styles of jazz guitarists Joe Pass and Tuck Andress, two of his biggest influences, who blended bass notes with melody in a way that created the illusion of two guitars. ''Gentlemen, I Neglected to Inform You You Will Not Be Getting Paid'' is a 2009 album by jazz guitarist Charlie Hunter. Recorded "In Glorious Mono" on analog tape with no overdubs, the album marks a shift in Hunter's sound from the genre-mixing of his previous three releases to a consistent blues/R&B-influenced approach. The title is allegedly a real quotation; according to Hunter, Well, it's a quote from a real, older, curmudgeonly musician that people have worked for. Karen Carpenter
Karen Anne Carpenter (March 2, 1950 – February 4, 1983) was an American singer and drummer, who formed half of the sibling duo the Carpenters alongside her older brother Richard. With a distinctive three-octave contralto range, she was praised by her peers for her vocal skills. Carpenter's struggle with and eventual death of heart failure related to her years-long struggle with anorexia would later raise awareness of eating disorders and body dysmorphia and their possible causes. Carpenter was born in New Haven, Connecticut, and moved to Downey, California in 1963 with her family. She began to study the drums in high school and joined the Long Beach State choir after graduating. Seven-string Guitar
The seven-string guitar adds one additional string to the more common six-string guitar, commonly used to extend the bass range (usually a low B) or also to extend the treble range. The additional string is added in one of two different ways: by increasing the width of the fingerboard such that the additional string may be fretted by the left hand; or, by leaving the fingerboard unchanged and adding a "floating" bass string. In the latter case, the extra bass string lies next to the existing bass strings, but free of the fingerboard in similar fashion as the archlute and theorbo.
