The Babes in the Wood Murders is a name that was used in the media to refer to a child murder case in which the bodies of three girls were found in Pennsylvania woodland. On November 24, 1934, John Clark and Clark Jardine found the bodies of Norma Sedgwick, 12, Dewilla Noakes, 10, and Cordelia Noakes, 8, under a blanket in the woods along Pennsylvania Route 233, Centerville Road. They had been suffocated, presumably by Elmo Noakes (father of Dewilla and Cordelia, and stepfather of Norma). The Babes in the Wood murders is a name which has been used in the media to refer to a child murder case in which the bodies of two brothers, Derek and David D'Alton, also known as David and Derek Bousquet, were found concealed in woodland at Stanley Park in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The Vancouver Police Department identified the brothers publicly on February 15, 2022. The Babes in the Wood murders are the murders of two children which occurred in a copse in Sewardstone, Essex on 31 March 1970. The victims, Susan Muriel Blatchford (age 11) and Gary John Hanlon (age 12), were lured from an unknown location close to their north London homes into a copse on the outskirts of Epping Forest, where they were raped and murdered by known paedophile Ronald Jebson. Their bodies were discovered on 17 June, 78 days after the two were reported missing by their parents. The case remained unsolved for almost thirty years until 61-year-old Jebson, serving a life sentence for the 1974 murder of an eight-year-old girl named Rosemary Papper, confessed to their rape and murder in 1998. He was convicted of both murders in May 2000. Jebson subsequently died in prison in 2015. Babes in the Wood is a traditional English children's tale, as well as a popular pantomime subject. It has also been the name of some other unrelated works. The expression has passed into common language, referring to inexperienced innocents entering unawares into any potentially dangerous or hostile situation. Traditional tale The traditional children's tale is of two children abandoned in a wood, who die and are covered with leaves by robins. It was first published as an anonymous broadside ballad by Thomas Millington in Norwich in 1595 with the title ''"The Norfolk gent his will and Testament and howe he Commytted the keepinge of his Children to his own brother whoe delte most wickedly with them and howe God plagued him for it"''.
