Baba Jubril
Kadri Baba Jubril (born 18 January 1990) is a Nigerian professional basketball coach and former player. He is the current head coach of the Kwara Falcons of the Nigerian Premier League (NPL). Playing career Jubril competed with the Nigeria Under-19 team at the 1999 FIBA Under-19 World Championship, where he averaged 15 points and 2.9 rebounds per game. During his professional career, he played for the Kwara Falcons (where he was the captain), Ebun Comets and the Nigeria Customs, among others in the 2013 FIBA Africa Clubs Champions Cup. Coaching career Since 2023, Jubril is also an assistant coach for the Nigeria national men's team. In 2018, Jubril started as assistant coach with the Kwara Falcons, under Lateef Erinfolami. Since assuming the position a year later, Jubril has been the head coach of Kwara Falcons. He guided the team to their first-ever Premier League title in 2022. Nigerian Premier League (basketball)
The Nigerian Premier Basketball League, often abbreviated to the NPL, is the pre-eminent men's professional basketball league in Nigeria. The league consists of sixteen teams who are categorized into two conferences based on the geographical location. These conferences are Savannah and the Atlantic. The league was sponsored by the DSTV until 2017, who had both title and TV rights through the contract agreement. The league was then referred to as the DSTV Premier Basketball League. Format The league usually spans from March till mid year. Each team plays a total of 14 games in a regular season after which the top four teams qualify for the Final Eight Playoffs which usually takes place at the National Stadium Surulere Lagos. The team at the bottom of the table in each conference is relegated from the league. Basketball Africa League
The Basketball Africa League (BAL) is Africa's premier men's basketball league. The league consists of twelve teams, each qualified through their domestic competition, similar to the format of the UEFA Champions League. The league is a joint effort between the National Basketball Association (NBA) and International Basketball Federation (FIBA) with sponsorship from Nike, Inc., Nike, Air Jordan and Pepsi. Its 2021 BAL season, inaugural season started with the qualifying rounds in October 2019 and the regular season in May 2021. The competition replaces FIBA's Africa Basketball League as the continent's top-tier league. 2023 BAL Sahara Conference
The Sahara Conference of the 2023 BAL season was played from 11 March to 21 March 2023 and was hosted in the Dakar Arena in Dakar, Senegal for a second straight season in a row. In a group of six teams, all team played each other one time. The top four teams in the standings advanced to the 2023 BAL Playoffs. REG were the defending Sahara Conference champions, having won the 2022 Conference. The defending champions US Monastir, who won the 2022 BAL Finals, were unable to qualify for the playoffs. 2023 BAL Season
The 2023 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 3, is the third season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The season began on 11 March 2023 and will end on 27 May 2023, with the playoffs and finals being played in the BK Arena in Kigali, which hosts the finals for a third season in a row. The regular season is played in Dakar, Senegal (Sahara Conference) and Cairo, Egypt (Nile Conference) for a second year in a row. The qualification games for the season, the Road to BAL, began on 11 October 2022. The winners of the 2023 BAL season will automatically qualify for the 2023 FIBA Intercontinental Cup Singapore.
