Werner Baake
Werner Baake (1 November 1918 in Nordhausen, Germany – 15 July 1964) was a night fighter pilot fighter ace and recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross who served in the Nazi German ''Luftwaffe'' during World War II. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognize extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Baake claimed 41 nocturnal aerial victories in 195 combat missions. He was the 36th most successful night fighter ace of World War II, and of aerial warfare. Baake's total surpassed that of all Allied night fighter pilots; Branse Burbridge being the highest. Career Baake was born on 1 November 1918 in Nordhausen, at the time in Thuringia of the German Empire. Following flight training, Baake was posted to I. '' Gruppe'' of ''Nachtjagdgeschwader'' 1 (NJG 1), based at Gilze-Rijen, Netherlands on 21 November 1942. The unit was involved in so-called ''Reichsverteidigung'' ("Defence of the Reich") operations. Hans-Jürgen Baake
Hans-Jürgen Baake (born 2 March 1954) is a retired German footballer. Playing career Baake played for MSV Duisburg in his youth before earning his first professional contract at VfL Osnabrück in 1972 and getting promoted to the 2. Bundesliga in 1974. After his time in Lower Saxony, Baake moved to Bundesliga side Wuppertaler SV for a further two years, but was relegated after just one season. His stalwart performances attracted Tennis Borussia Berlin where he played between 1976 and 1978, making 57 appearances for the ''Veilchen''. In 1980, Baake moved to city rivals Hertha BSC. Aged 26 and after only his seventh league game for Hertha, Baake was forced to retire from football, following an injury sustained by Borussia Dortmund's Miroslav Votava Miroslav "Mirko" Votava (born 25 April 1956) is a German retired footballer and manager. Ellen Baake
Ellen Baake (born 1961) is a German mathematical biologist who works as a professor of biomathematics and theoretical bioinformatics at Bielefeld University. Her research uses probability theory and differential equations to study biological evolution; she has also studied mathematical immunobiology and the mathematical modeling of photosynthesis. Baake earned a diploma in biology in 1985 from the University of Bonn, and completed her Ph.D. there in theoretical biology in 1989. Her dissertation, ''Ein Differentialgleichungsmodell zur Beschreibung der Fluoreszenzinduktion (OIDP-Kinetik) der Photosynthese'', was supervised by . She earned a habilitation at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in 1999 and, after holding faculty positions at several other universities, joined Bielefeld University in 2004.
