BRIO Award
The Bronx Council on the Arts (established 1962), is an art based culture agency that has grown to become the official cultural agency of the Bronx, New York City. It provides a “lifeline” to more than 4,800 artists and over 250 arts and community-based organizations. History The Bronx Council on the Arts was founded in the early 1960s when community leaders: Jerry Klot, Reverend William Kaladjian and others came together to provide summer arts & culture activities in the Bronx. In 1969 the Bronx Council on the arts merged with the Bronx Committee on the Arts and worked to improve access to the arts around the Bronx by introducing various programs around the Borough including the Bronx regrets program and the opening of the Bronx Museum of the Arts. Hostos Center For The Arts & Culture
Hostos Center for the Arts & Culture is a performing arts and visual arts center located within Hostos Community College in the South Bronx, New York City. Hostos Center consists of a museum-grade art gallery, a 367-seat repertory theater, and an 884-seat main theater. The building design is the work of the architectural firm Gwathmey Siegel & Associates who was honored with the 1988 Excellence in Design Award from the Art Commission of the City of New York for their design. The PEN World Voices Festival of International Literature is an annual week-long literary festival held in New York City and Los Angeles. Pregones Theater
The Puerto Rican Traveling Theater is a theater company based at the 47th Street Theater in New York City. It was founded as El Nuevo Círculo Dramatico (The New Drama Circuit) by Míriam Colón and Roberto Rodríguez. It was one of the first Puerto Rican theater companies to be founded and is credited with kickstarting the Hispanic and Puerto Rican theater scene in New York.
