BK Ventspils
BK Ventspils is a professional basketball club that is located in Ventspils, Latvia. The club competes in the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League. History BK Ventspils was founded in 1994. In first years Ventspils proved themselves as relevant part of Latvian basketball, but major step came in 1997 when Ventspils Olympic Center was built. At that time Ventspils started to play in international competitions playing in 1997–98 edition of FIBA Korać Cup, which was followed by playing in FIBA Saporta Cup. Meanwhile, in the Latvian League Ventspils reached finals in both 1998 and 1999, but in 2000 they won their first domestic title and then went on to win seven consecutive from 2000 to 2006. The team won its eight Latvian League championship in 2009. During that championship run Ventspils also had great performances in European competitions. Latvian–Estonian Basketball League
The Latvian-Estonian Basketball League is the highest professional men's club basketball league in Latvia and Estonia; it has been organised since 2018, run by the Latvian Basketball Association and the Estonian Basketball Association. History The league was established in 2018 when the Latvijas Basketbola līga (LBL) and Korvpalli Meistriliiga (KML) merged. In its inaugural season, 15 teams participated in the league. After a Final Four is played to determine the winner of the league, there are playoffs to decide the national champions of Latvia and Estonia. The first game was on 28 September 2018, with Estonian champions Kalev/Cramo hosting a game against the Latvian champions Ventspils. On 9 April 2019, Ventspils won the first league championship. The Latvian Basketball Association ( Latvian: ''Latvijas Basketbola Savienība''), also known as LBS, is the national governing body of basketball in Latvia. It was founded in 1923 and was one of the FIBA Europe co-founders, but due to the Soviet and Nazi occupations, the federation disappeared from FIBA from 1940 to 1991. Its headquarters are located in Riga. Tournaments organized Latvian Basketball Association is recognized as one of the best international tournament organizers for FIBA. 2017–18 Latvian Basketball League
The 2017–18 Latvian Basketball League was the 27th and last season of the top basketball league of Latvia. VEF Rīga was the defending champions. Eventually, Rīga lost the final to Ventspils by 2–4. Competition format The same ten teams from the previous season will join the league. The two first qualified teams will join directly the semifinals while teams between third and sixth will qualify to the quarterfinals. The 2018–19 Latvian–Estonian Basketball League, known as OlyBet Latvian–Estonian Basketball League for sponsorship reasons, was the inaugural season of the newly formed Latvian–Estonian Basketball League, the combined top basketball division of Latvia and Estonia. The season began on 28 September 2018, with the 2018 Estonian champions Kalev/Cramo hosting a game against the 2018 Latvian champions Ventspils. The Final Four was played at the Saku Suurhall in Tallinn, Estonia, with Ventspils winning the inaugural title. Competition format The competition format follows the usual double round-robin format. BC Prienai
BC Prienai ( lt, Krepšinio klubas Prienai), also known by the sponsor name Labas Gas, is a professional basketball club based in Prienai, Lithuania. They play domestically in Lithuanian Basketball League every year. During the 2008–09 season, then called Rūdupis, they became the champion of the NKL and won the challenge match for a slot in the LKL. In their debut LKL season Rūdupis took seventh place, while next two seasons brought BC Prienai two bronze LKL medals. BC Prienai played in EuroCup 2011–12 with moderate success; the team won 3 games out of 6, but nonetheless failed to qualify for the next stage. Brent Wright
Brindley Lambert Wright (born May 6, 1978) is an American former professional basketball player. Playing career Wright did not play organized basketball until 1993–94. He was a Top-35 recruit in the country coming out of Miami Senior High School. He played college basketball at the University of Florida from 1997 to 2001. Wright played for Gators team that made NCAA Tournament three straight times. He was part of Florida Gators team that made 2000 NCAA Final Four. He sued Nike after his Nike Maxair shoe ripped open during a game against Mississippi on February 21, 2001. The suit claimed the defected shoe caused permanent damage to Wright's right foot limiting his earning capacity as a professional basketball player. Jānis Blūms
Jānis Blūms (born 20 April 1982) is a former Latvian professional basketball player. Standing at , Blūms played both point guard and shooting guard positions. He also served as the captain of the Latvian national basketball team. Player career Blūms started his career with Brocēni and later continued to play in their successor Skonto. In 2003, he signed with Polish club Anwil Włocławek, where he spent one season before returning to Latvia, where he joined BK Ventspils. After two years in Ventspils, Blūms joined Lithuanian powerhouse BC Lietuvos rytas. In 2007, Blūms accepted offer from Italian side Eldo Napoli where he had a decent season. In 2008, Blūms signed a two-year contract with Bilbao Basket of Spain's ACB League. Totally he played four very good seasons in Bilbao. Marijonas Petravičius
Marijonas Petravičius (born October 24, 1979) is a Lithuanian retired professional basketball player. He was a member of the Lithuania national team. He mainly played the center position, but he could also play the power forward position. Professional career With his former club Mitteldeutscher BC, he won the FIBA EuroCup Challenge in 2004, being the Final Four MVP. Petravičius arrived to Lietuvos rytas Vilnius in 2006, to replace Robertas Javtokas who left the team, and he quickly became the first choice center for the team. He helped Lietuvos rytas to reach the EuroCup final in 2007. In 2008 the team was competing in the EuroLeague, and in his first game Petravičius scored 29 points against Armani Jeans Milano.
