BIO.be, the Belgian Association for Bioindustries is a Belgian non-profit organization of companies and professionals involved in biotechnology, and those servicing the biotechnology community. The organization works on innovation and entrepreneurship in the biotech industry. The headquarters of the organization are located in Brussels. The chairman is Philippe Stas ( AlgoNomics) and the Secretary General is Hugo Francq. flanders.bio, founded in 2004, is the networking organisation for the life sciences sector in Flanders and represents and supports around 350 member companies. The key strategic objectives of flanders.bio are knowledge exchange and valorisation, human capital development, internationalization of the cluster activities and visibility, familiarization of the public with products derived from the sector and the further development of a supportive environment for the members of flanders.bio. The flanders.bio network brings together companies with activities in the life sciences – companies that are for example developing biopharmaceuticals, medical technologies or agricultural or industrial biotech products. The network also welcomes research institutes, universities and providers of capital, services and technologies to the life sciences community. Belgian Society Of Biochemistry And Molecular Biology
The Belgian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) is a Belgian non-profit organization, concerned with biochemistry and molecular biology. The BMB was created, based on an initiative of Marcel Florkin, so a Belgian society could join the new International Union of Biochemistry. The first charter of the society was drafted by Edouard J. Bigwood, Jean Brachet, Christian de Duve, Marcel Florkin, Lucien Massart, Paul Putzeys, Laurent Vandendriessche and Claude Lièbecq. The first general assembly was held on 12 January 1952, and the first President of the society was Marcel Florkin, with Claude Lièbecq as secretary and treasurer. The European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) is a Brussels-based trade association and lobbying organisation, founded in 1978 and representing the research-based pharmaceutical industry operating in Europe. Through its membership of 37 national associations and 38 leading pharmaceutical companies, EFPIA represents 1,900 european companies in the areas of researching, developing and manufacturing new medical treatments.
