BC Dinamo Tbilisi ( ka, საკალათბურთო კლუბი ,,დინამო’’) is a professional basketball club that is based in Tbilisi, that plays in the Georgian Superliga. It is one of the oldest and most successful basketball clubs of Georgia and the former USSR, having won numerous national titles and the 1962 FIBA European Champions Cup ( EuroLeague). The club's traditional colors are blue and white. History BC Dinamo was established in 1934 as the basketball division of the Dynamo Sports Society. During the 1950s and the 1960s, it was one of the leading teams of the USSR. Georgian Super Liga
The Georgian Basketball Super League ( ka, საკალათბურთო სუპერლიგა, Sakalatburto Superliga), also known as the Georgian Top League, is the highest professional basketball league in Georgia (country), Georgia. The first season was played in 1991, and was won by BC Dinamo Tbilisi, Dinamo Tbilisi. The 1990s were dominated by BC Vita Tbilisi, who won the title a record 7 times. BC Batumi, and then Energy Invest Rustavi, dominated the following decade. Otar Korkia
Otar Korkia (Georgian: ოთარ ქორქია, russian: Отар Михайлович Коркия; May 10, 1923 – March 15, 2005) was a Georgian professional basketball player and coach. He was named one of FIBA's 50 Greatest Players, in 1991. He was also named the Best Georgian Basketball Player of the 20th Century, and the Best Georgian Sportsman of the 20th Century. He was born in Kutaisi. Playing career Club career During his club career, Korkia played with Dinamo Kutaisi, from 1940 to 1947, and with Dinamo Tbilisi, from 1947 to 1958. He won three USSR League championships (1950, 1953, and 1954) and two USSR Cups, (1949 and 1950). National team career Korkia was a member of the senior Soviet Union national basketball team, which won the silver medal at the 1952 Summer Olympic Games. The 1962–63 FIBA European Champions Cup was the sixth season of the European top-tier level professional basketball club competition FIBA European Champions Cup (now called EuroLeague). It was won by CSKA Moscow, after they beat Real Madrid in a three-legged EuroLeague Finals, after the two first games ended with an aggregate two-legged tie. CSKA won the third and decisive game, by a score of 99–80, and thus won its second European Champions Cup. Competition system 26 teams. The 2017–18 Georgian Superliga is the 18th season of the Georgian Superliga since its establishment. Dinamo Tbilisi retained the title. Teams Delta joined the competition, expanding it to nine teams as no team was relegated from the previous season. USSR Premier Basketball League
The USSR Premier Basketball League, or Soviet Union Premier Basketball League (also called Supreme League), was the first-tier men's professional basketball league in the former Soviet Union. The league existed from 1923 to 1991, as the top professional basketball league of the Soviet Union, and from 1991 to 1992, as the top professional basketball league of the CIS.
