BC Barsy Atyrau
Basketball Club "BC" Barsy Atyrau (russian: Баскетбольный клуб "БК" Барсы Атырау) is a Kazakhstani professional basketball club based in the city of Atyrau in western Kazakhstan. Founded in 2003, Barsy has competed in the Kazakhstan Basketball Championship, where they were champions in 2011 and 2016, the Kazakhstan Basketball Cup (winning in 2009), and the Baltic Basketball League. For the 2014–15 season, the team also competed in the Rietumu līga (Western league), a regional basketball league in Latvia. History Barsy Atyrau was founded in 2003, with impetus from the Atyrau region Basketball Federation and the Atyrau Board for Tourism and Sports. The Orsk Basketball Federation also provided help, such as sending Leonid Novikov to serve as a coach and adviser. A women's section was established for the 2007–08 season. Balkan International Basketball League
The Balkan International Basketball League (BIBL), also known as the Balkan League, is a multinational professional basketball league that features mostly clubs from the Balkans. The league included teams from countries as Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Albania and Israel. The most recent league champion is Hapoel Galil Elyon from Israel. Purpose The purpose of the Balkan International Basketball League is to provide competitive international play for clubs in the Balkans that would otherwise be unable to participate in international basketball. The league achieves this by providing financial support to all participating clubs in order to ease the costs that make international play difficult. Among other milestones, the league is also the first international league of its kind to include teams from Kosovo. Eurobasket
EuroBasket, also commonly referred to as the European Basketball Championship, is the main international basketball competition that is contested quadrennially, by the senior men's national teams that are governed by FIBA Europe, which is the European zone within the International Basketball Federation. The competition was first held in 1935. The former Soviet Union holds the record for most gold medals with a total of 14. The tournament is generally held in August or September, in the offseason of major club competitions. The current defending champion is Spain, who won the 2022 title.
