Basketball Bundesliga-Pokal, commonly known as the BBL-Pokal, is the annual national basketball cup competition in Germany. Since 2009, the title has been awarded to the winner of a tournament competition between top clubs of each Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) season. History and format The competition was founded in 1966, by the German Basketball Federation. The first final of the German Basketball Cup took place on 11 June 1967, in Oberhausen. Since 1993, the cup championship is decided in a final four format, which is held over one weekend. The host team of the cup's final four, is automatically set as one of the participants. The three remaining teams are determined by three quarterfinal matches, played between the winners of the earlier round matches. Starting from the 2018–19 season, the format was changed to a sixteen team knock-out tournament, with the sixteen highest seeded teams from the previous season qualifying. Brandt Hagen Hagen is a professional basketball club from Hagen in Germany. History It is the successor of Brandt Hagen, a professional club that had considerable success in the German Basketball Bundesliga in the 90s. In April 1990, the club was formed by merging the basketball teams of SSV Goldstar Hagen and TSV Hagen 1860. The two clubs were among the founding members of the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL), the top league of German basketball. Also, at the time of merger, both teams played in the BBL. The name "Brandt Hagen", for the new club, originated from the main sponsor Brandt Zwieback, a well known producer of zwieback in Germany. The company has its roots in Hagen. QTSV Quakenbrück, representing its professional team as Artland Dragons, is a basketball club based in Quakenbrück, Germany. Their home arena was the Artland Arena, which has room for 3,000 spectators. From 2003 till 2015 the club played in the Basketball Bundesliga and in several European competitions. Their home arena is Trier Arena, which has a capacity of 5,495 people. From 1990 till 2015 the club existed in the form of TBB Trier, which went bankrupt. History The club was founded in 1990, and has played in the top division Basketball Bundesliga since the club's inception. They once were a part of the sports club ''TV Germania Trier'', and became independent after promotion to the Bundesliga.
