BBC Audio
AudioGO (formerly BBC Audiobooks) was a publisher of audiobooks and a range of spoken word and large-print titles. It was majority owned by AudioGO Ltd, and minority owned by BBC Worldwide. It was formed in 2010, when AudioGO purchased a majority share in BBC Audiobooks, and traded until it went into administration in 2013. AudioGO published unabridged audio novels, and the BBC Radio Collection which incorporated dramatisations and non-fiction output derived from BBC Radio programmes. Novels were published under the imprint ''AudioGO'', and BBC-sourced content under the ''BBC Audio'' imprint, the latter making up about 20% of new titles as at 2010. Catalogue AudioGO had about 8,500 titles in its catalogue at the time it went into administration in 2013. Thereupon AudioGO's catalogue of non-BBC titles was sold to Audible.com. BBC Worldwide
BBC Worldwide Ltd. was the wholly owned commercial subsidiary of the BBC, formed out of a restructuring of its predecessor BBC Enterprises in January 1995. The company monetises BBC brands, selling BBC and other British programming for broadcast abroad with the aim of supplementing the income received by the BBC through the licence fee. The company merged with BBC Studios on 1 April 2018, to form a new licensing, production, and distribution company under the BBC Studios name. Helen Nicoll
Helen Nicoll (10 October 1937 – 30 September 2012) was an English author of children's books. She is best known for the ''Meg and Mog'' series. In total, she wrote 17 books. She worked with Jan Pienkowski (illustrator) for over forty years on her books. In 1983, she founded an audiobook company called Cover to Cover. It was bought by BBC Worldwide in 2000. Biography She was educated at Blackwell and then Badminton School in Bristol. For a year she studied the violin at Dartington Hall in Devon. An audiobook (or a talking book) is a recording of a book or other work being read out loud. A reading of the complete text is described as "unabridged", while readings of shorter versions are abridgements. Spoken audio has been available in schools and public libraries and to a lesser extent in music shops since the 1930s. Many spoken word albums were made prior to the age of cassettes, compact discs, and downloadable audio, often of poetry and plays rather than books. It was not until the 1980s that the medium began to attract book retailers, and then book retailers started displaying audiobooks on bookshelves rather than in separate displays. Etymology The term "talking book" came into being in the 1930s with government programs designed for blind readers, while the term "audiobook" came into use during the 1970s when audiocassettes began to replace phonograph records. It is part of Penguin Random House, which is owned by German media conglomerate Bertelsmann. A layoff or downsizing is the temporary suspension or permanent termination of employment of an employee or, more commonly, a group of employees (collective layoff) for business reasons, such as personnel management or downsizing (reducing the size of) an organization. Michael Kuhn (film Producer)
Michael Ashton Kuhn (born 1949) is a Kenyan-born British film producer based primarily in the United Kingdom. Career Kuhn was born in 1949 in Nairobi, Kenya. At age 13, he traveled to the UK to study at Dover College and then read law at Clare College, Cambridge. He joined PolyGram in 1975, and in 1991 he set up the subsidiary PolyGram Filmed Entertainment (PFE). In 1999, when PolyGram merged with Universal Music Group, he went independent and formed the production company Qwerty Films. He published his memoir '' 100 Films and a Funeral'' in 2001. This was later turned into a documentary of the same name, charting the rise and fall of PolyGram Filmed Entertainment. In 2002 he was appointed Chair of the National Film and Television School.
