BBAR
The British Best All-Rounder (BBAR) competition, organised by Cycling Time Trials, is an annual British cycle-racing competition. It ranks riders by the average of their average speeds in individual time trials, over 50 and and 12 hours for men, and over 25, 50 and for women. There are similar competitions for under-18s and teams of three. Qualifying races have to be ridden between April and September. Certificates are awarded to men with 22 mph (35.5 km/h) or faster and women averaging 20 mph (32.25 km/h) or more. The junior speeds are and 21 mph (37 and 33.9 km/h). Competitions modelled on the BBAR are organised within UK regions, and for over-40s. History The BBAR was announced by the magazine '' Cycling'' on 4 April 1930. Adam Duggleby
Adam Christopher John Duggleby (born 16 October 1984) is a British cyclist. He represented Great Britain at the 2016 Rio Paralympics as a sighted pilot for visually impaired cyclist Stephen Bate, whom he was paired with in January 2014. The pair won gold in the men's individual pursuit B and men's road time trial B, and bronze in the men's road race B. In 2017 Duggleby broke two Cycling Time Trials national records: tricycle 10 miles and 100 miles bicycle. Duggleby also won the British Best All-Rounder time trial competition for 2017. He then won the 2018 CTT national 12hr time trial championship, breaking the national record in the process. In 2018 Duggleby and Bate won the UCI World 4 km Tandem B Pursuit and the UCI World Tandem B Time Trial, both for the first time. Michael Hutchinson (cyclist)
Michael Hutchinson (born 20 November 1973 in Northern Ireland) is a British and Irish racing cyclist and writer who has represented Great Britain, Ireland and Northern Ireland at events including the Commonwealth Games. Hutchinson's speciality is the individual time trial, but he has also won races on the track. He is a previous holder of the 10, 25, 30, 50 and 100-mile competition records. He has made two unsuccessful attempts at the hour record, the first of which forms the basis of his 2006 book ''The Hour'', which gained him the award for Best New Writer at the 2007 British Sports Book Awards. Cycling career Hutchinson began cycling at the University of Cambridge, where he studied Law at Fitzwilliam College. As part of a university team he won the National Team 25 Championships. Frank Southall
William Frank Southall (2 July 1904 – 1 March 1964) was an English racing cyclist who won silver medals for Great Britain in the individual road bicycle racing, road race (run as an individual time trial) at the 1928 Summer Olympics and a track cycling medal at the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. He also represented Britain in world championships from 1926 to 1933. He was born in Wandsworth, London. He rode for the South London Norwood Paragon cycling club, broke numerous time trial and Road Records Association place-to-place records in domestic competitions, winning the first four British Best All-Rounder (BBAR) competitions from 1930 to 1933. Golden Book Of Cycling
The ''Golden Book of Cycling'' was created in 1932 by ''Cycling'', a British cycling magazine, to celebrate "the Sport and Pastime of Cycling by recording the outstanding rides, deeds and accomplishments of cyclists, officials and administrators." There exists only a single copy of this compendium of illuminated manuscripts. Each page was crafted to honour a single cycling hero. The original book was finished in 1972, but the tradition has been continued by The Pedal Club, who also maintain the archive of the original book. Tour De France
The Tour de France () is an annual men's multiple-stage bicycle race primarily held in France, while also occasionally passing through nearby countries. Like the other Grand Tours (the Giro d'Italia and the Vuelta a España), it consists of 21 stages, each a day long, over the course of 23 days, coinciding with the Bastille Day holiday. It is the oldest of the Grand Tours and generally considered the most prestigious. Hayley Simmonds
Hayley Rebecca Simmonds (born 22 July 1988) is a British racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Women's Continental Team . Career Simmonds attended King's School, Worcester from 1999 until 2006. She studied Natural Sciences at Newnham College, Cambridge, and completed a doctorate in Experimental Chemistry at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge in 2016. She was originally a rower at Cambridge, taking part in the 2009 reserve crew Boat Race, before switching to cycling in 2011. In 2015, she won the British National Time Trial Championships, and in August 2015 she set a new British national 10 mile time record with a time of 19:46. Simmonds joined the team in January 2016, however in June of that year she announced that she was leaving the team after struggling to find an efficient position on their Wilier Triestina time trial bicycles. Cycling Time Trials
Cycling Time Trials is the bicycle racing organisation which supervises individual and team time trials in England and Wales. It was formed out of predecessor body the Road Time Trials Council (RTTC) in 2002. Time trialling A time trial tests a rider not against other cyclists but the watch. Other than in team events, which are less numerous, competitors race individually, starting at intervals of a minute. Riders may not ride together when one catches another. The order of start is often organised so that the fastest riders are spaced apart. In that way they are less likely to catch each other, while when they catch lesser riders they will pass that much faster that neither will be helped or hindered. Beryl Burton
Beryl Burton, OBE (12 May 1937 – 5 May 1996) was an English racing cyclist who dominated women's cycle racing in the UK, winning more than 90 domestic championships and seven world titles, and setting numerous national records. She set a women's record for the 12-hour time-trial which exceeded the men's record for two years. Early life Burton was born Beryl Charnock in the Halton area of Leeds, West Yorkshire and lived in the nearby Morley area throughout her life, racing mainly for Morley Cycling Club and later Knaresborough CC. In childhood, she suffered chronic health problems which included 15 months in hospital and a convalescent home due to rheumatic fever. Maxine Johnson (born 1961) is a female retired English racing cyclist.
