Bōken Ō
''Bōken Ō'' (冒険王, "Adventure King") was a monthly Manga magazine, magazine for youth published by Akita Shoten between 1949 and 1983. It was among the first generation of children's comic magazines after World War II and was initially focused on publishing illustrated prose and emonogatari and then shifted to manga. History The magazine was initially founded under the title ''Shōnen Shōjo Bōkenō'' (少年少女冒険王) and was eventually renamed ''Bōken Ō''. Nobumichi Akutsu acted as chief editor of the magazine for decades and worked extensively with Osamu Tezuka. The magazine initially published some of the biggest hits of emonogatari during its peak, among them the science fiction series ''Sabaku no Maō'' by Tetsuji Fukushima. The magazine's editor gave Fukushima American comics as a reference for the series. In the early 1950s, it shifted more and more towards manga. Ikki Kajiwara
, known by the pen names and , was a Japanese author, manga writer, and film producer. He is known for the work about sports and martial arts, with images of heroic young men with the occasional fine details as he moves from one topic to another. He considered ''Tiger Mask'' and '' Star of the Giants'' to be his life's work. Biography The son of an illustrator and editor, Takamori was a notorious juvenile delinquent with an interest on fighting. After World War II, his family moved to Tokyo, where he jumped schools until landing a job as a novelist at 17. Ken Ishikawa
was a Japanese manga artist. He is renowned as the co-creator (with Go Nagai) of the ''Getter Robo'' anime series, as well as four of their subsequent manga continuations. According to Nagai, he considered Ishikawa his greatest friend and ally. Death Ishikawa collapsed at a dinner banquet after golfing; he was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The causes of death was acute heart failure. Influences Kazuki Nakashima, chief editor of the Getter Robo Saga compilation cited Ken Ishikawa as an influence when he worked on the series composition of the anime show, ''Gurren Lagann'', and also gave a memorial address at his funeral. He also calls himself Ken Ishikawa's number one fan. Ishikawa's early art is quite reminiscent of that of his mentor, Go Nagai. , better known by the pen name , is a Japanese manga artist and a prolific author of science fiction, fantasy, horror and erotica. He made his professional debut in 1967 with ''Meakashi Polikichi'', but is best known for creating popular 1970s manga and anime series such as ''Cutie Honey'', ''Devilman'' and ''Mazinger Z''. , known as '' Starvengers'' in the United States, is a super robot anime series by Toei Animation based on ''Hundred Demons Empire'' arc of ''Getter Robo'' manga by Go Nagai and Ken Ishikawa. This direct sequel to ''Getter Robo'' was broadcast on Fuji TV from May 15, 1975 to March 25, 1976, with a total of 39 episodes (some episodes were rebroadcast, erroneously giving the impression that there were 43 episodes). Mattel's popular Shogun Warriors toy collection included Getter Robo G's robot formations in that toy line: Getter Dragon (Dragun), Getter Liger (Raider), and Getter Poseidon (Poseidon). As a result of the popularity of these toys in the US, Jim Terry included this series in his ''Force Five'' anime lineup under the title of ''Starvengers''. was a Japanese manga artist born in Suma Ward of Kobe City in Hyōgo Prefecture. His personal name was originally spelled , with the same pronunciation. Leiji Matsumoto
is a Japanese mangaka, creator of several anime and manga series. His wife Miyako Maki is also a manga artist. Early life Matsumoto was the middle child of a family of seven brothers, and, in his early childhood, Matsumoto was given a 35mm film projector by his father, and watched American cartoons during the Pacific War. During this time, he gained an interest in science fiction novels by authors Unno Juza and H. G. Wells. At 18, he moved to Tokyo, to become a ''mangaka''. Dororo
is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by the manga artist Osamu Tezuka. Tezuka's childhood memory of his friends pronouncing as ''dororo'' inspired the title of the series. ''Dororo'' was first serialized in Shogakukan's ''Weekly Shōnen Sunday'' between August 1967 and July 1968, before being cancelled. The manga was then concluded in Akita Shoten's ''Bōken'ō'' magazine in 1969. A 26-episode anime television series adaptation by Mushi Productions aired in 1969.
