Bülent Akın
Bülent Akın (born 28 August 1978) is a Belgian-born Turkish former Association football, footballer. Club career Akin's potential was noticed after Galatasaray S.K. (football team), Galatasaray legend Gheorghe Hagi remarked on how well the young midfielder had marked him in a match between Galatasaray and Akin's club, Denizilispor. Galatasaray subsequently signed Akin, but he failed to live up to the expectation. Nonetheless, he managed to win the UEFA Super Cup in 2000 UEFA Super Cup, 2000 with the club. In July 2002 he joined English side Bolton Wanderers. He made his debut in a Football League Cup, League Cup defeat to Bury F.C., Bury, a game in which he was sent off. He made one appearance for Bolton in the league; a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa on 1 January 2003. He was released by Bolton in April 2003. 2000 UEFA Super Cup
The 2000 UEFA Super Cup was a football match played on 25 August 2000 between Real Madrid of Spain and Galatasaray of Turkey. Real Madrid qualified by beating Valencia in the 2000 UEFA Champions League Final, while Galatasaray had made it to the Super Cup after beating Arsenal in the 2000 UEFA Cup Final. Galatasaray won the match 2–1, both goals scored by Mário Jardel, the latter a golden goal. This was the first Super Cup contested by the winners of the UEFA Cup (now the UEFA Europa League). Until 1999, it was contested by the winners of the UEFA Champions League and the winners of the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, but the Cup Winners' Cup was discontinued after the 1998–99 season. The 2001–02 Süper Lig was the 44th edition of top-flight professional football in Turkey. Galatasaray S.K. became champions for the 15th time. Turkish First Football League was renamed as Turkish Super League in this season. Turkey climbed from eleventh to seventh place in the UEFA association coefficient rankings at the end of the 2000–01 season, that means the league has gained additional two spots for the UEFA Cup and for the first time, the champions will now enter the group stage of the UEFA Champions League instead of having to compete in the qualifying rounds. The Süper Lig (, ''Super League''), officially known as Spor Toto Süper Lig for sponsorship reasons, is a Turkish professional league for association football clubs. It is the top-flight of the Turkish football league system and is run by the Turkish Football Federation. In the 2022–23 season, nineteen clubs compete, where a champion is decided and three clubs are promoted from, and relegated to the 1. Lig. The season runs from August to May, with each club playing 36 matches. Matches are played Friday through Monday. The competition was initially established in 1923.
