Buzz Fazio
Basil "Buzz" Fazio (February 7, 1908 – February 15, 1993) nicknamed the "Buzzer" was a pioneer and early American bowling star during the mid-20th century. Known equally for his fierce competitiveness and audience pleasing theatrics, Fazio's professional career spanned from the early 1940s to the late 1960s. The six-time ABC (American Bowling Congress) and two-time PBA (Professional Bowlers Association) champion began his career during bowling's golden era of "Team" play. Sir John Falstaff is a fictional character who appears in three plays by William Shakespeare and is eulogised in a fourth. Edward G. "Eddie" Elias (December 12, 1928 – November 15, 1998) was best known as the founder of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA). Elias grew up in the Akron, Ohio, United States area, and attended West High School, The University of Akron, Western Reserve Law School (now part of Case Western Reserve University). He was active in numerous sports during his high school and college years, including baseball and basketball. Glenn Richard Allison (born May 22, 1930) is a retired American professional ten-pin bowler who was a founding member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA). He was born in Whittier, California, to Leo Allison, a car salesman, and Stella Bradford. He won five PBA Tour titles and one Senior PBA title, and was inducted into the PBA Hall of Fame (Veterans/Special Category) in 1984. He is also a member of the USBC Hall of Fame (inducted 1979), having won four titles in the ABC Tournament's Classic Division: he won in doubles in 1962, his "Eagles" team won in 1964 and 1966, and he claimed a singles title in 1970. Dick Hoover
Richard Lee Hoover (December 15, 1929 – September 17, 2009) was an American professional bowler (ten-pin), bowler. He won two American Bowling Congress Masters titles in 1956 and 1957, and helped start the Professional Bowlers Association, PBA in 1958 with founder Eddie Elias. Born in Roseville, Ohio, Hoover grew up in Akron. He gained his first fame as a 16-year-old schoolboy by rolling an 847 series, the highest in the nation during 1946. Five years later, at 21, he became the youngest bowler to win the BPAA All-Star tournament (predecessor to the U.S. Open (bowling), U.S. Open). Harry Monroe Smith (April 29, 1930 – August 8, 2021), nicknamed "Tiger", was a right-handed American ten-pin bowler and charter member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA). Smith won 12 PBA Tour titles, including two major championships. He is a member of the PBA and USBC Halls of Fame. Early career Smith was known as a standout team bowler in his native Cleveland before moving to Detroit in 1955 to compete for the Pfeiffer Beer team. Two years later, he moved to St. Louis to bowl for the Falstaffs team, which at various times included Glenn Allison, Billy Welu, Buzz Fazio, Steve Nagy and Dick Hoover. William Joseph Welu (July 3, 1932 – May 16, 1974) was an American professional bowler, executive for the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA), bowling broadcaster, and ambassador for the sport. A founding member of the PBA in 1958, he won four PBA titles, including two USBC Masters (then known as the American Bowling Congress) championships. He was only the second bowler in history to successfully defend a United States Bowling Congress Masters title, winning the event in 1964 and 1965 to join Dick Hoover (1956–57). Carmen Salvino (born November 23, 1933 in Chicago) is an active professional ten-pin bowler, inventor, author, ambassador, and a founding member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA). Known as "PBA's Original Showman", Salvino won 17 PBA Tour titles –- among them the 1962 PBA National Championship where he defeated fellow bowling legend Don Carter in the finals. He also won two PBA Senior Tour titles, including the 1984 Senior National Championship. Richard Anthony Weber (December 23, 1929 – February 14, 2005) was a ten-pin bowling professional and a founding member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA). Along with Don Carter, Weber is widely regarded as professional bowling's first superstar. He is one of only eight players in history to accumulate at least 30 career PBA Tour titles, and was also the first player to reach that plateau. Bowling accomplishments Weber made his first bowling headlines during the early 1950s, while working as a mailman in his native Indianapolis. In 1955 he moved to Florissant, Missouri to join the bowling team named the Budweisers (after the popular American beer brand).
