Butjadingen
Butjadingen is a peninsula and municipality in the Wesermarsch district, in Lower Saxony, Germany. Geography Butjadingen is situated on the German North Sea coast. It is bordered on the west and southwest by the Jade River and the east by the Weser River. It forms the northern part of the Wesermarsch district and has a rather low population. The political borough of Butjadingen adjoins Nordenham which geographically is also part of the peninsula Butjadingen. The peninsula was formed during the Middle Ages when huge floods created today's North Sea coastlines. After the Second Marcellus Flood on January 13, 1362 (which occurred around the day of Marcelli Pontificis) Butjadingen temporarily became an island. Its name is derived from Frisian "Buten" (=outside) and "Jade" and thus means ''the lands on the other side of the Jade River''. Klaus Dede
Klaus Dede (1 June 1935 in Nordenham, Oldenburg – 5 May 2018, Oldenburg) was a German writer and journalist. Life Dede was born 1935 in Nordenham-Blexen. His father was a Lutheran priest. After school Dede studied during the 1950s. Later Dede worked as a newspaper reporter in Papenburg, Gütersloh and Nordenham. Dede wrote several books over local history in northern part of Lower-Saxony (Butjadingen, Oldenburg, Bremerhaven, Stedingen, Jade, Wesermarsch) and a book about Jesus ''Jesus – schwul?, Die Kirchen, die Christen und die Liebe'' (translated "Was Jesus gay?"). Wesermarsch
Wesermarsch is a '' Kreis'' (district) in the northwestern part of Lower Saxony, Germany. Neighboring are (from the east clockwise) the districts of Cuxhaven and Osterholz, the city of Bremen in the state Free Hanseatic City of Bremen, the urban district of Delmenhorst, the district of Oldenburg and the urban district of Oldenburg, and the districts of Ammerland and Friesland. Geography The district is located at the western banks of the River Weser between Bremen and the river's mouth. Several rivers cross the district from west to east, the largest of them being the Hunte, which runs through Oldenburg before entering Wesermarsch. In the north the Weser mouth and the Jade Bight (a bay off the North Sea) enclose the Butjadingen peninsula. Weser River
The Weser () is a river of Lower Saxony in north-west Germany. It begins at Hannoversch Münden through the confluence of the Werra and Fulda. It passes through the Hanseatic city of Bremen. Its mouth is further north against the ports of Bremerhaven and Nordenham. The latter is on the Butjadingen Peninsula. It then merges into the North Sea via two highly saline, estuarine mouths. It connects to the canal network running east-west across the North German Plain. The river, when combined with the Werra (a dialectal form of "Weser"), is long and thus, the longest river entirely situated within Germany (the Main, however, is the longest if the Weser and Werra are not combined). Nordenham
Nordenham () is a town in the Wesermarsch district, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is located at the mouth (on the west bank) of the Weser river on the Butjadingen peninsula on the coast of the North Sea. Mellum
Mellum is an uninhabited island lying southeast of Wangerooge, off the coastal settlements of Horumersiel and Schillig. Mellum formed as an island off the end of the Butjadingen peninsula—which divides the outflows into the Wadden Sea of the Jade and Weser rivers—only at the end of the nineteenth century. It is chiefly composed of dunes and tidal marshes. The influence of sea currents and winds is constantly altering the shape and position of the island, which in 2006 had a total surface area of approximately 750 hectares (1853 acres). Agriculture
Agriculture or farming is the practice of cultivating plants and livestock. Agriculture was the key development in the rise of sedentary human civilization, whereby farming of domesticated species created food surpluses that enabled people to live in cities.
