Bushman's River
The Bushman's River ( af, Boesmansrivier) is an east to north-easterly flowing tributary of the Tugela River, in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. It rises in the Drakensberg Mountain range, with its upper catchment in the Giant's Castle Game Reserve, north of the Giant's Castle promontory. It feeds the Wagendrift Dam and then flows past the town of Estcourt to join the Tugela River near the town of Weenen. Its tributaries include the Little Bushmans River which joins the Bushmans River at Estcourt, Rensburgspruit, Mtontwanes River and the Mugwenya River. The Wagendrift Dam near Estcourt is its major reservoir. Several densely populated rural villages, many inhabited by the ''amaHlubi'', are found in the river's upper catchment area. The river is flanked by the Bloukrans River to the north and the Mooi River to the south. Wagendrift Dam
The Wagendrift Dam is a multi-arch type dam located on the Bushman's River, upstream of Estcourt, in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. It was completed in 1963 and serves mainly for irrigation purposes, domestic water supply and industrial demands. The hazard potential of the dam has been ranked high (3). Bloukrans River (KwaZulu-Natal)
The Bloukrans River (KwaZulu-Natal) originates in the Emangosini foothills of the Njesuthi Drakensberg, in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. It proceeds in a north-easterly direction, passing the village of Frere, until it joins the Tugela River. The river and its tributaries are mostly undammed, though limited irrigation occurs from its upper reaches. Its original Dutch name Blaauwekrans ( zu, Msuluzi) referred to bluish cliff faces present in the area. The Bloukrans's main tributary is the Nyandu River which in turn has the Sterkspruit as a tributary. The remaining tributaries are the Ududuma, Umsobotshe and Ubhubhu rivulets. The De Hoek experimental farm is situated along the Klein-Bloukrans's upper reaches. The Bloukrans River is flanked by the Little Tugela to the west and the Bushman River to the south, both tributaries of the Tugela. Hlubi
The Hlubi people or AmaHlubi are an Nguni ethnic group native to Southern Africa, with the majority of population found in KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape provinces of South Africa. List of AmaHlubi kings Origins The Hlubi, similar to other current Southern African nations, originate from Central Africa. They moved as part of the eMbo people’s southern migration. More specifically, they are said to originate from the people known as the Shubi. The Shubi can still be found today in Congo and some parts of Rwanda and Tanzania. Language The AmaHlubi speak a dialect closely related to the Ama Swati language, one of the Tekela languages in the Nguni branch of the Bantu language family. The Hlubi (AmaHlubi) dialect is endangered and most Hlubi speakers are elderly and illiterate. Estcourt
Estcourt () is a town in the uThukela District of KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa. The main economic activity is farming with large bacon and processed food factories situated around the town. The N3 freeway passes close to the town, linking it to the rest of South Africa. Location Estcourt is located at the confluence of the Bushmans and the Little Bushmans River. It is also on the main Durban - Johannesburg railway line some 160 km north of Durban and 25 km south of the Tugela River crossing. In earlier years the main road, later to become the N3, passed through the town. The town itself is 1196 m above sea level and lies in the hilly country that dominates most of the Natal Midlands. Giant's Castle
Giant's Castle is a mountain located within the Drakensberg range in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It includes a grassy plateau nestled among the deep valleys of the southern end of the central Drakensberg. Together, the shape of the peaks and escarpment are thought to resemble a sleeping giant's profile; hence, its name. Giant's Castle is best known for its nature reserve and the bushman rock art preserved at its main caves, and the game reserve is home of the eland as well as the bearded vulture and Cape vulture. The area is considered one of South Africa's many adventure areas, and attracts hikers, nature enthusiasts, and other tourists. It also hosts the Giant's Challenge marathon in April each year.
