Indie Folk
Indie folk is a music genre that arose in the 1990s among musicians from indie rock scenes influenced by folk music. Indie folk hybridizes the acoustic guitar melodies of traditional folk music with contemporary instrumentation. The genre has its earliest origins in 1990s folk artists who displayed alternative rock influences in their music, such as Ani DiFranco and Dan Bern, and acoustic artists such as Elliott Smith and Will Oldham. In the following decade, labels such as Saddle Creek, Barsuk, Ramseur, and Sub Pop helped to provide support to indie folk, with artists such as Fleet Foxes breaking into the pop charts with albums such as ''Helplessness Blues''. In the United Kingdom, artists such as Ben Howard and Mumford & Sons emerged, with the latter band promoting the music style through their Gentlemen of the Road touring festivals. Brandon Metcalf
Brandon Metcalf (born July 3, 1986) is an American record producer and entrepreneur. In 2005, he founded Destiny Collective, a network of businesses in the music and merchandising industries. He was originally a Seattle-based record producer but as of August 2012 is now based primarily out of Nashville. History: Teenage years Starting in the 6th grade, Metcalf was a paperboy. At age 13, he took savings from the paper route job and purchased a set of turntables after deciding he wanted to be a DJ. Adopting the nickname FADE, he spent his teenage years DJing at competitions, school dances, clubs, and weddings. He started his first official business at age 15 which was a wedding DJ business. At age 13 he wrote and recorded his own hip hop album, using beats he made on the computer and sampled from vinyl records. The Scene Aesthetic
The Scene Aesthetic was an American two-piece band based in Seattle, Washington. The duo consists of Andrew de Torres (also a member of Danger Radio) and Eric Kimberlin. History The band gained recognition through MySpace after posting their first songs, specifically their popular first single, "Beauty in the Breakdown". They have been featured in the Wall Street Journal and Rolling Stone Magazine. They have toured throughout the United States with various acts such as Never Shout Never, Lydia, The Ready Set, Danger Radio, Stephen Jerzak, Anarbor. They toured the UK with Joe Brooks, and in fall of 2009, they toured with Owl City and Brooke Waggoner. They most recently toured with He is We and Carter Hulsey. ''The Scene Aesthetic'' is the second album released by The Scene Aesthetic and is a re-release of their 2006 debut album, Building Homes from What We've Known. Andrew De Torres
Andrew de Torres is the lead vocalist of Danger Radio and lead vocalist and guitarist of The Scene Aesthetic. Along with Eric Kimberlin, who was also in The Scene Aesthetic, he also released music as Prince of Spain. Andrew continued to write and record music as a solo artist under the name Kaptan. Biography Danger Radio De Torres met his future Danger Radio band-mate Nico Hartikainen during their time at middle school in Edmonds in 1999. The pair involved bassist Marvin Kunkel to form what would morph into Danger Radio after several line-up changes. Danger Radio have released three EPs and one full-length album, '' Used and Abused''. The Scene Aesthetic Andrew got together with Eric Kimberlin in January 2005 to write a song, which became their successful single "Beauty in the Breakdown".
