Buckie
Buckie ( gd, Bucaidh) is a burgh town (defined as such in 1888) on the Moray Firth coast of Scotland. Historically in Banffshire, Buckie was the largest town in the county until the administrative area was abolished in 1975. The town is the third largest in the Moray council area after Elgin and Forres and within the definitions of statistics published by the General Register Office for Scotland was ranked at number 75 in the list of population estimates for settlements in Scotland mid-year 2006. Buckie is virtually equidistant to Banff to the east and Elgin to the west, with both approximately distant whilst Keith lies to the south by road. Etymology The origin of the name of the town is not entirely clear. Although the folk etymology is that Buckie is named after a seashell (genus ''buccinum'') the reality is that the shared marine background is a coincidence. Buckie High School
Buckie High School is a mixed secondary school in Buckie, Moray, Scotland which has a roll of around 900 pupils in years S1 to S6. The school serves the coastal communities of Portgordon, Buckie, Portessie, Findochty, Portknockie and Cullen. History Rathven School Board There has been a secondary school in Buckie since 1875. The opening followed the 1872 Education (Scotland) Act, which made education compulsory between the ages of 5 and 13 and put education in the charge of 895 school boards. Rathven School Board covered the Buckie area and built Buckie Public School in West Church Street, at its junction with Pringle Street. The first entry in the school's log book on 14 January 1876 records that there were 100 pupils enrolled in the charge of a rector, and two pupil teachers. The curriculum consisted of reading, writing, arithmetic, grammar and composition, history, geography, singing and religious knowledge, with Latin for some pupils. Buckie Railway Station
Buckie railway station was a railway station in Buckie, in current day Moray. The station was opened by the Great North of Scotland Railway (GNoSR) on its Moray Firth coast line in 1886, served by Aberdeen to Elgin trains. The Highland Railway had opened their station named Buckie (H.R.) two years previously, on a branch from , but this closed in 1915. The GNoSR was absorbed by the London and North Eastern Railway in 1923 and became part of British Railways when the railways were nationalised in 1948. The station and line was recommended for closure by Dr Beeching's report "The Reshaping of British Railways" and closed on 6 May 1968. Buckie Railway Station (Highland Railway)
Buckie railway station was one of two stations which once served the town of Buckie, in the parish of Rathven, Scottish county of Moray. This Highland Railway station was served by trains on the Buckie and Portessie Branch north of Keith until 1915 and remained open for freight until April 1944. History Work had begun on the Keith to Portessie line of the Highland Railway on 7 November 1882. The station was opened by the Highland Railway in 1884 to serve the sizeable town of Buckie but had a short life with services being suspended during World War I on 9 August 1915 In 1917 the track between Aultmore (towards Keith) and Portessie was requisitioned by the Admiralty and the rails south of Buckie removed as far as Aultmore, although it was the intention to reinstate the track and restart services when the war ended. Buckie Leach
Anthony Buckie Leach (1958 – August 14, 2021) was an American foil fencing coach and fencer. He began fencing at age 12 and coaching at age 20. A coach for over 40 years, his students have found success on both the national and international levels. His success with the Rochester Fencing Center garnered worldwide attention. He was the first to produce an American Fencing World Champion, and was an Olympic fencing coach in 1996, 2000, 2004, 2016, and 2020. He was inducted into the USA Fencing Hall of Fame in 2013. His fencers won over 20 medals in Junior and Senior World Cup events as well as numerous National and NCAA championships. In 2021, his student Lee Kiefer won the gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics, the first American to achieve this in Olympic foil. His students include past Olympians Felicia and Iris Zimmermann, and 2004 Olympian Erinn Smart. Gravity Bong
A gravity bong, also known as a GB, geebie, bucket bong, grav, geeb, yoin, jib, buckie or ghetto bong, is a method of consuming smokable substances such as cannabis. The term describes both a bucket bong and a waterfall bong, since both use air pressure and water to draw smoke. A lung uses similar equipment but instead of water draws the smoke by removing a compacted plastic bag or similar from the chamber. The bucket bong is made out of two containers, with the larger, open top container filled with water. The smaller has an attached bowl and open bottom, and the smaller is placed into the larger.
