Bruno Caires
Bruno Ricardo Mendonça de Caires (born 2 April 1976) is a Portuguese retired footballer who played as a defensive midfielder. Club career A product of S.L. Benfica's youth system, Lisbon-born Caires was initially loaned to C.F. Os Belenenses in his first year as senior, where he made his Primeira Liga debuts. He returned in the 1995 summer, playing 24 competitive games during the season to help his team finish in second position. In the 1997 summer, Caires signed for Celta de Vigo, who paid €3.5 million for his services. He made his La Liga debut on 9 November by coming on as a late substitute in a 3–1 away win against CD Tenerife, but his spell in Spain was plagued by injury problems, and he was also loaned to precisely Tenerife in January 2000. Subsequently, Caires returned to Lisbon, signing for Sporting Clube de Portugal. The 1995–96 Primeira Divisão was the 62nd edition of top flight of Portuguese football. It started on 19 August 1995 with a match between União de Leiria and Marítimo, and ended on 12 May 1996. Starting from this season, Portugal implemented the three points for a win rule, after FIFA formally adopted the system. The league was contested by 18 clubs with Porto as the defending champions. Eurico Mendonça de Caires (5 August 1952 – 13 November 1989), known simply as Eurico, was a Portuguese footballer who played as a midfielder. He represented clubs in Portugal, Canada and the United States. Club career Born in Funchal, Madeira, Eurico played youth football with S.L. Benfica, being promoted to the first team for the 1971–72 season and making one Primeira Liga appearance, as a substitute. He went on to represent, always in the top flight, S.C. Beira-Mar, C.D. In sport, a cap is a player's appearance in a game at international level. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football. In the early days of football, the concept of each team wearing a set of matching shirts had not been universally adopted, so each side would distinguish itself from the other by wearing a specific sort of cap. An early illustration of the first international football match between Scotland and England in 1872 shows the Scottish players wearing cowls, and the English wearing a variety of school caps. The Taça de Portugal (; "Cup of Portugal") is an annual association football competition and the premier knockout tournament in Portuguese football. For sponsorship reasons, it has been known as Taça de Portugal Placard since the 2015–16 season. Organised by the Portuguese Football Federation since it was first held in 1938, the competition is open to professional and amateur clubs from the top-four league divisions.
