Bruce McDonald (Australian Politician)
Bruce John McDonald, AM (born 26 May 1935) was a New South Wales politician, Leader of the Opposition and Leader for the Liberal Party of New South Wales. McDonald was Leader of the Opposition of New South Wales, Australia from 1 June 1981 to 12 October 1981, when he lost the election to Labor Premier, Neville Wran. McDonald lost the parliamentary seat he contested at the same election. Early life McDonald was born in the Sydney suburb of Drummoyne in 1935 and was educated at Drummoyne Boys High School and Sydney Technical High School. He studied civil engineering and urban planning at Sydney Technical College and the University of Sydney and was later employed as a Cadet Engineer for the Metropolitan Water Sewerage and Drainage Board from 1951 to 1956. Bruce McDonald (born May 28, 1959) is a Canadian film and television director, writer, and producer. Born in Kingston, Ontario, he rose to prominence in the 1980s as part of the loosely-affiliated Toronto New Wave. McDonald has directed more than a dozen features films over the course of his three-decade-long filmmaking career. ''The Hollywood Reporter'' has called him an "iconoclastic filmmaker". Several of his films, ranging from mockumentaries to horror films, have attracted cult followings. His most notable films include ''Roadkill'' (1989), '' Highway 61'' (1991), '' Hard Core Logo'' (1996), ''Pontypool'' (2008), ''Trigger'' (2010), and '' Hellions'' (2015). Bruce P. McDonald (died May 10, 2005) was a provincial court judge in Manitoba, Canada. He resigned in 1993, following controversy about racist and sexist statements he had made from the bench. Early career McDonald became a judge in Portage la Prairie in 1962. He was criticized in 1987 for issuing only a $500 fine in a drunk driving case that resulted in a man's death. Major General Bruce Alexander McDonald, (23 March 1925 – 23 March 1993) was a senior officer in the Australian Army, seeing service in the Second World War, the Indonesia-Malaysia Confrontation and the Vietnam War. Early life and education McDonald was born in Geelong, Victoria, on 23 March 1925, the son of Angus Alexander and Olive (née Penny) McDonald. Military career McDonald graduated from the Royal Military College, Duntroon in December 1944 and was posted to the 2/5th Battalion. He served in the later stages of the Second World War and was awarded a Military Cross for bravery and leadership while commanding a platoon during heavy fighting with the Japanese at Ulupu in New Guinea in July 1945, in which he was wounded. He is a professor of Public Budgeting and Finance in the Department of Public Administration at North Carolina State University and an Academic Associate for the International Centre of Public Accountability at Durham University.
