Brossard
Brossard ( , , ) is a municipality in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada and is part of the Greater Montreal, Greater Montreal area. According to the Canada 2021 Census, 2021 census, Brossard's population was 91,525. It shares powers with the urban agglomeration of Longueuil and was a borough of the Longueuil, municipality of Longueuil from 2002 to 2006. According to the website of the city of Brossard, the municipality was named in honour of the Brossard family (the surname derives from a word meaning "brushwood"), a prominent settler family of the area whose presence was first attested in 1766. A member of this family, Georges-Henri Brossard, had been mayor of the predecessor parish municipality of La Prairie-de-la-Madeleine since 1944 and became the first mayor of Brossard. Doreen Assaad
Doreen Assaad is a Canadian politician. She has been mayor of Brossard, Quebec since 2017, and was re-elected in 2021. Before that, she was a city councillor from 2009 to 2017. She is the second female mayor in the history of the city. Early life Assaad was born in Quebec as the daughter of Egyptian immigrants who came to Canada in the 1970s. Assaad has a degree from the Université de Montréal in applied mathematics and computer science. She has worked for Desjardins Group, the Canadian National Railway and Bombardier Aviation as a business process optimization specialist. She moved to Brossard in around 2002. Alexandra Mendès
Alexandra Mendès (born November 3, 1963) is a Canadian Liberal politician, currently serving as the Member of Parliament for the riding of Brossard—Saint-Lambert since 2015. She previously served in the House of Commons from 2008 until 2011 as the MP for the riding of Brossard—La Prairie. Early life Mendès was born in Portugal and immigrated to Canada with her family in 1978 when she was 15.
