''Brookesia tristis'' is a species of chameleons. It is endemic to Montagne des Français, Madagascar, and is an endangered species due to the decline of its habitat. It was named after the French word "triste" meaning sad to provoke thought regarding the threatened habitat of Madagascar's micro-endemic species. B. Frank Glaw
Frank Rainer Glaw (born 22 March 1966 in Düsseldorf) is a German herpetologist working at the Zoologische Staatssammlung München. Glaw studied biology in Cologne from 1987, where he completed his diploma. Thereafter, he attended the University of Bonn, from which he graduated in 1999, after completing his Ph.D. thesis titled ''Untersuchungen zur Bioakustik, Systematik, Artenvielfalt und Biogeographie madagassischer Anuren'' about the frogs of Madagascar, supervised by Professor Wolfgang Böhme. Since 1997, he has been the curator of herpetology at the Zoologische Staatssammlung München. Glaw's focus during and after his thesis work was the herpetofauna of Madagascar. Jörn Köhler (born 23 June 1970 in Göttingen) is a German herpetologist. He studied biology at the University of Bonn and received a Ph.D. in zoology in 2000, being associated with the '' Zoologische Forschungsmuseum Alexander Koenig'', Bonn. Miguel Vences
Professor Miguel Vences (born 24 April 1969 in Cologne) is a German herpetologist and evolutionary biologist. Much of his research is focused on the reptiles and amphibians of Madagascar. Life The son of Galician philosopher Sergio Vences Fernández (1936–2012), Vences attended the Schiller-Gymnasium Köln from 1979 to 1988, and graduated with the German Abitur. The following year he began to study Biology at the University of Cologne. Chameleon
Chameleons or chamaeleons (family Chamaeleonidae) are a distinctive and highly specialized clade of Old World lizards with 202 species described as of June 2015. Montagne Des Français
The Montagne des Français Reserve (French language, French for: ''mountain of the French people, French'') is a protected area consisting principally of Madagascar dry deciduous forests, dry deciduous forest in northern Madagascar. It is part of the larger Ramena protected area complex which also includes Orangea Reserve and the Ambodivahibe Marine Reserve. These three protected areas are currently being created and will be designated in 2008. Flora and fauna The Montagne des Français reserve protects deciduous dry forest characteristic of the north of Madagascar. ''Brookesia'' is a genus of chameleons, endemic to Madagascar, that range from small to very small in size, and are known collectively as leaf chameleons (though this name also commonly is used for species in the genera ''Rieppeleon'' and ''Rhampholeon''). ''Brookesia'' includes species considered to be the world's smallest chameleons, and are also among the smallest reptiles. Members of the genus ''Brookesia'' are largely brown and most are essentially terrestrial.
