''Broken Ties'' is a 1918 silent film starring June Elvidge, Montagu Love, and Arthur Ashley. Ashley also directed the film. It was a William A. Brady World Pictures production. It was marketed as containing "not one dull moment". The film was based on Arthur M. Brilant's play The Alibi (play), The Alibi. The film received generally positive reviews. A write-up in ''Motography'' describes it as a tense drama. One aspect of the plot is a father forbidding his son from seeing a young woman believed to have mixed ethnic heritage. The fifth and final season of the military science fiction television series ''Stargate Atlantis'' commenced airing on the Sci Fi Channel (United States), Sci Fi Channel in the United States on July 11, 2008, concluded on the same channel on January 9, 2009, and contained 20 episodes. The show itself is a Spin-off (media), spin off of its sister show, ''Stargate SG-1''. The season upgrades previous supporting characters cast members such as Richard Woolsey (from ''Stargate SG-1'') and Jennifer Keller. Amanda Tapping's character Samantha Carter was downgraded to recurring character in this season. Frances Miller
Frances Miller (sometimes credited as Frances Grant or Frances Miller Grant) was an American actress who worked extensively during Hollywood's silent era. Like many black actresses of her time, she was often cast in " mammy" roles. Biography Miller may have been born in Kansas City, Missouri, and she later resided in Manhattan and Atlanta. She began appearing in films around 1911, although she may not have been credited for her earliest appearances. She seems to have retired by the early 1930s. ''The Alibi'' is a 2006 American film directed by Kurt Mattila and Matt Checkowski and written by Noah Hawley. It stars Steve Coogan, Rebecca Romijn, and Selma Blair. Silent Film
A silent film is a film with no synchronized recorded sound (or more generally, no audible dialogue). Though silent films convey narrative and emotion visually, various plot elements (such as a setting or era) or key lines of dialogue may, when necessary, be conveyed by the use of title cards. The term "silent film" is something of a misnomer, as these films were almost always accompanied by live sounds. During the silent era that existed from the mid-1890s to the late 1920s, a pianist, theater organist—or even, in large cities, a small orchestra—would often play music to accompany the films. Pianists and organists would play either from sheet music, or improvisation. Sometimes a person would even narrate the inter-title cards for the audience.
