Artie Ortego
Artie A. Ortego (February 9, 1890 – July 24, 1960) was an American actor. He appeared in more than 240 films between 1912 and 1955. Ortego portrayed cowboys, henchmen and American Indians in a large number of westerns and performed horse riding stunts. He was also a stunt double for Ramón Novarro in '' The Barbarian'' (1933), which is set in Cairo and also stars Myrna Loy. Biography A full-blooded Mission Indian, Ortego was born in San Jose, California, the son of Benjamin Ortega and Rosa Gardnos. His siblings were Mary Ortega and Ben Ortega. In 1900, the family lived at 753 Orchard Street in San Jose. His father was a butcher. His debut was in the role as Moon Face in Bison Motion Pictures' silent western short '' The Tattoo'' (1912) opposite Mona Darkfeather and William Bertram. A lost film is a feature or short film that no longer exists in any studio archive, private collection, public archive or the U.S. Library of Congress. Conditions During most of the 20th century, U.S. copyright law required at least one copy of every American film to be deposited at the Library of Congress at the time of copyright registration, but the Librarian of Congress was not required to retain those copies: "Under the provisions of the act of March 4, 1909, authority is granted for the return to the claimant of copyright of such copyright deposits as are not required by the Library." William Clifford (actor)
William Clifford (1878 – December 23, 1941) was an American actor and screenwriter of the silent era. He appeared in 170 films between 1910 and 1929. He also wrote for 30 films between 1913 and 1919. Clifford was born in New Orleans in 1878, and he was educated in voice and music in Toronto, Canada. Early in his career, Clifford acted on stage as a supporting player for 18 years before he formed his own repertory company that toured the United States. He also was the leading man in Earnest Shipman's ''Prisoner of Zenda'' company. He died in Los Angeles, California. Harold Lockwood
Harold A. Lockwood (April 12, 1887 – October 19, 1918) was an American silent film actor, director, and producer. He was one of the most popular matinee idols of the early film period during the 1910s. Early life and career Born in Brooklyn, Lockwood was raised and educated in Newark, New Jersey. Upon graduating, he began working in exporting. Lockwood quickly discovered that he did not enjoy exporting and quit to become an actor. He initially began his acting career in vaudeville. In 1908, Lockwood joined the Selig Company. In 1910, Lockwood signed on with a stock company for David Horsley and appeared in Western shorts. He later worked for the New York Motion Picture Company, Selig Polyscope Company and Famous Players Film Company. While at Famous Players, Lockwood was cast opposite actress May Allison in Allan Dwan's romantic film ''David Harum''.
