George Broadhurst
George Howells Broadhurst (June 3, 1866 – January 31, 1952) was an Anglo-American theatre owner/manager, director, producer and playwright. His plays were most popular from the late 1890s into the 1920s. Biography Broadhurst was born in Walsall, England, in 1866. In 1882 he emigrated to the United States where, while working for the Chicago Board of Trade, he began writing plays, the first of which, ''The Speculator'', was based on his work there. He later moved into production and direction. He also managed theatres in Milwaukee, Baltimore, and San Francisco, and in 1917 in partnership with the Shubert brothers he built and opened the famous Broadhurst Theatre in New York. He staged a number of plays in his eponymous theatre until 1924, and continued to co-own the theatre with the Shuberts until his death in 1952. Brigadier Ronald Joseph Callender Broadhurst (1906–1976) was a Unionism (Ireland), Unionist politician in Northern Ireland. In the 1973 Northern Ireland Assembly election, he was the last of seven MPAs elected in the South Down (Assembly constituency), South Down constituency, as a pro-Sunningdale candidate. He became the Deputy Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly, 1973, Assembly. Also in 1973, Broadhurst appeared on UTV (TV channel), Ulster Television demanding that the New University of Ulster (now the University of Ulster at Coleraine) be closed down, a request he also made in the Assembly, to no effect. Paul Andrew Broadhurst (born 14 August 1965) is an English professional golfer. He won six times on the European Tour and played in the 1991 Ryder Cup. Since turning 50, he has had success in senior events, winning the 2016 Senior Open Championship and the 2018 Senior PGA Championship. Career Broadhurst was the leading amateur at the 1988 Open Championship. He joined the European Tour in 1989 and picked up his first win at the Credit Lyonnais Cannes Open that year, and was the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year. Further European Tour wins followed in 1991, 1993 and in 1995, when he won the Open de France (French Open). He played in the Ryder Cup in 1991. Mary Broadhurst
Mary Adelaide Broadhurst (23 May 1860 – 8 December 1928) was a British agricultural reformer and radical. She was a leading suffragette who founded the National Land Council which trained women during the first world war to work on the land. After the war she championed the rights of Palestine and resisted the rise of Bolsheviks. Life Broadhurst was born in Chorlton-on-Medlock in 1860. Her parents were Maria (born Hutchinson) and William Broadhurst and she was their eldest child. Her father was a city councillor in Manchester, a bookkeeper and accountant. She was awarded an MA degree by the University of London and then taught at Liverpool Ladies' College. In 1880 she moved to Glasgow and worked as a science teacher at the Park School for Girls, Glasgow. Karl Matthew Broadhurst (born 18 March 1980) is an English retired footballer who played as a central defender. Biography Broadhurst was born in Portsmouth and joined AFC Bournemouth at the age of 12. He progressed through the youth system and made his first team debut in the League Cup against Charlton Athletic in the 1999-00 season where he won man of the match. His league debut came four days later, and he quickly established himself in the first team squad. Despite being hampered by a persistent ankle injury which kept him out until October 2000, he made 32 appearances during the 2000-01 season. Broadhurst also played for English clubs Doncaster Belles, Arsenal and Croydon/Charlton Athletic. Broadhurst was formerly a bishop of the Church of England and served as the Bishop of Fulham in the Diocese of London from 1996 to 2010.
