British Sports Journalism Awards
The British Sports Journalism Awards is an annual ceremony organised by the Sports Journalists' Association that recognise the best of sports journalism in Britain in the previous calendar year. The awards are widely considered the BAFTAs of the industry, and attract entries from all major domestic and international media outlets. History The first edition of the awards was held in 1976 with the Sports Writer of the Year given to celebrated journalists Ian Wooldridge and Hugh McIlvanney. More categories across broadcast and print have been added over the years. The ceremony is held at a gala dinner in London every February. Martha Kelner
Martha Kelner (born ) is a British sport reporter, and is the daughter of Martin Kelner, also a sports reporter. She is currently working for Sky News. Kelner has reported a number of high-profile stories, including doping in Russia, allegations of a culture of bullying in British Cycling and Chris Froome's failed doping test. Journalism career After graduating from the University of Sheffield, she joined her father's newspaper the '' Daily Mail'' in 2011. In March 2017, Kelner was appointed Chief Sports Reporter at ''The Guardian'' following her father's request. Jonathan Liew
Jonathan Liew (born 1985) is a sports writer for ''The Guardian''. Liew has been named the sports writer of the year, and sports columnist of the year, at the annual SJA Awards. Journalism career Liew started in 2009 on the ''Daily Telegraph'' graduate training scheme after being named the 2007 Student Columnist of the Year in ''The Guardians Student Media Awards while a student at the University of Edinburgh. He became a feature writer and columnist at the ''Daily Telegraph'', where he was named as the 2011 Sports Journalists Association "young sports writer of the year". At the ''Telegraph'', Liew estimated he covered at least 39 sports on five different continents and developed a fondness for rugby league.
