The British Association for Immediate Care (BASICS) is an organisation which has the stated aim to encourage and aid the formation and extension of immediate care schemes. The ''British Association for Immediate Care'' was founded as a charity in 1977 and combines bringing people together who have an interest in pre-hospital immediate care with supporting and promoting regional and local immediate care schemes across the UK. The organisation relies on volunteer medical professionals to provide healthcare assistance in support of the emergency services. It is registered as a charity. Tom J. Quinn was the UK's first Professor of cardiac nursing, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) for his outstanding contribution to research and practice of cardiac nursing. 2015 Shoreham Airshow Crash
On 22 August 2015, a former military aircraft crashed onto a main road during an aerial display at the Shoreham Airshow at Shoreham Airport, England, killing 11 people and injuring 16 others. It was the deadliest air show accident in the United Kingdom since the 1952 Farnborough Airshow crash, which had killed 31 people. The aircraft, a Hawker Hunter T7, failed to complete a loop manoeuvre and crashed, hitting vehicles on the A27 road adjacent to the airport. The pilot, Andy Hill, was critically injured but survived. As a result of the accident, all civilian-registered Hawker Hunter aircraft in the United Kingdom were grounded, and restrictions were put in place on civilian vintage jet aircraft displays over land, limiting them to high-level flypasts and banning aerobatic manoeuvres. Anthony Edward Kemp, MBE MStJ is the Chief Officer of the British Association for Immediate Care. He is most well known for his previous role as chairman of the British Association for Immediate Care, and for his work in the 2015 Shoreham Airshow crash. Awards Kemp was appointed a serving brother of the Order of Saint John by Queen Elizabeth II, in November 2011, for his work to nursing. He was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2014 for "services to pre-hospital emergency care", in his role as the vice chairman of the British Association for Immediate Care. A Community first responder (CFR), is a person available to be dispatched by an ambulance control centre to attend medical emergencies in their local area. They can be members of the public, who have received training in life-saving interventions such as defibrillation, off duty paramedics, nurses or medical doctors, or indeed professionals from a non-medical discipline who may be nearby or attending emergencies, such as firefighters.
