British Academy Games Award For Multiplayer
The British Academy Video Games Award for Multiplayer is an award presented annually by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). It is given in honor of "the best multiplayer game experience, including social, online or offline". The 1st British Academy Video Games Awards ceremony was held in 2004, with EA Digital Illusions CE and Electronic Arts game ''Battlefield 1942'' winning the award. The award was known as the British Academy Video Games Award for Online Multiplayer for the 2005, 2012 and 2013 ceremonies. Since its inception, the award has been given to eighteen games. Valve has received the most awards in this category as both developer and publisher, with three wins. Valve was also nominated on more occasions than any other developer, four times; Electronic Arts is the most nominated publisher, with twelve nominations. ''Far Cry'' is a 2004 first-person shooter game developed by Crytek and published by Ubisoft. It is the first installment in the ''Far Cry'' franchise. Set on a mysterious tropical archipelago, the game follows Jack Carver, a former American special forces operative, as he searches for the female journalist, Valerie Constantine, who accompanied him to the islands but went missing after their boat was destroyed by mercenaries. As Jack explores the islands, he begins to discover the horrific genetic experiments being conducted on the local wildlife and must confront the mad scientist behind them. The game was the first to use Crytek's CryEngine, and was designed as an open-ended first-person shooter, meaning it lacks most of the freedom its successors would offer to the player.
