British Academy Children's Awards 2022
The 25th Annual British Academy Children's Awards were held on 27 November 2022, presented by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) to recognize achievements in British television targeted to children and young people. The ceremony took place at Old Billingsgate in London and was hosted by television and radio presenter Lindsey Russell. The ceremony marks the return of the awards after a three-year absence. The eligibility period ran from 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2022. The nominations were announced on 25 October 2022 with CBBC series '' Dodger'' and BBC One animated television film ''The Snail and the Whale'' leading the list with three each. Old Billingsgate
Old Billingsgate Market is the name given to what is now a hospitality and events venue in the City of London, based in the Victorian building that was originally Billingsgate Fish Market, the world's largest fish market in the 19th century. The first Billingsgate Market building was constructed on Lower Thames Street in 1850 by the builder John Jay, and the fish market was moved off the streets into its new riverside building. ''Crackerjack'' is a British children's television series that initially aired on the BBC One, BBC Television Service between 14 September 1955 and 21 December 1984 (with no series in 1971). The series was a variety show featuring comedy sketches, singers and quizzes, broadcast live with an audience. On 11 February 2019, it was announced that ''Crackerjack'' would return in 2020, 35 years after it was last aired. It is now hosted by Sam & Mark, with an exclamation mark added to its original title, and has aired on CBBC (TV channel), CBBC since 17 January 2020. ''FYI Daily'' is a 60-second daily entertainment news round-up. Broadcast on ITV2, ITV3, ITV4 and ITVBe, it generally airs mid-way through films. Prior to 2010 it was simply branded as ''Entertainment News'', and before that was ''Showbiz News'', which was initially created for the ITN News Channel. It is produced by ITN Productions. British Academy Children's Award For International
The British Academy Children and Young People Award for International is an award presented annually by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). It is given to "television and online content where the editorial and creative control resides outside of the UK". It was first presented at the 3rd British Academy Children's Awards in 1998, with Australian science-fiction television series ''Ocean Girl'' being the first recipient of the award. In 2018, three international categories were presented (Animation, Live-Action, Pre-School), while in 2019, two of the three were awarded (Animation and Live-Action). ''Something Special'' is a British children's television programme presented by Justin Fletcher. It was created and co-directed by Allan Johnston. It is broadcast by the BBC, debuting on 1 September 2003. It is designed to introduce children to Makaton signing, and is specifically aimed at children with delayed learning and communication difficulties. It is aired on the CBeebies channel and is currently the longest running CBeebies programme and the longest running preschool series in Britain. ''Grace's Amazing Machines'' (known as ''Catie's Amazing Machines'' and presented by Catie Munnings for the first series) is a television series first shown on CBeebies in October 2018. Presenter Grace Webb explains the role and basic mechanics of large and/or fast vehicles, usually ending up in the driving seat for a demonstration. The format is similar for each episode; Munnings/Webb summons Speedie, a remote controlled car, to deliver an envelope revealing the theme of the episode. Three machines are featured, from which she chooses her favourite. Vox pops with children share their thoughts on the vehicles. A glam metal soundtrack is provided by The Darkness. ''Hey Duggee'' is a British animated educational preschool television series aimed at two to five year olds. Created by Grant Orchard, it is produced by Studio AKA, in association with BBC Studios (formerly BBC Worldwide). The show is narrated by Alexander Armstrong. The programme's characters are talking anthropomorphic animals, with Duggee communicating in woofs. The episodes are based around The Squirrel Club, an activity club for children that Duggee leads. The childrenthe club's Squirrelstake part in all kinds of activities, have adventures and earn badges for their accomplishments. Each episode shows the Squirrels completing an activity or adventure relating to a badge that they earn at the end of each episode. The British Academy Children and Young People Award for Preschool Animation is an award presented annually by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). It is given to "animated content for children under six". Through the ninetiees, preschool animated productions were awarded alongside live-action series in a category named Preschool. In 2000, two categories were created, one for each type of production (animation and live-action). The first recipient of the category was CITV's series ''Maisy''.
