Biographia Britannica
''Biographia Britannica'' was a multi-volume biographical compendium, "the most ambitious attempt in the latter half of the eighteenth century to document the lives of notable British men and women". The first edition, edited by William Oldys (1696–1761) until his death, appeared in 6 volumes (the sixth in two parts, the second sometimes catalogued as volume 7) between 1747 and 1766. The editor of the two parts of volume 6 (1763 & 1766) is unknown. Five volumes of an incomplete second edition, edited by Andrew Kippis (1725–1795) with the assistance of Joseph Towers (1737–1799), appeared between 1778 and 1793, and cover names commencing Aa through to Fa; a sixth volume was prepared for publication, and may have been published, but now seems to be lost. Insecta Britannica Diptera
''Insecta Britannica Diptera'' is a seminal work of entomology by Francis Walker. The work spans three volumes; a fourth volume was never published. Parts of the work were credited by Walker to Alexander Henry Haliday, including the characters and synoptic tables of the Empididae, Syrphidae, and Dolichopodidae and addenda and corrigenda intended for volume 4. The dating of ''Insecta Britannica Diptera'' The precise dates of early entomological publications are frequently hard to establish. *Volume 1: The preface is dated December 1851. *Volume 2: Putatively dated 1853. *Volume 3: An advertisement bound at the back of the volume is dated 31 March 1856. ''Britannica Malayalam Encyclopedia'' (also known as ''Malayalam Britannica'' and ''Malayalam Encyclopedia'') is a reference work in the Malayalam language. Its content is in large part a translation of the '' Britannica Concise Encyclopædia''. While it won an award from the Federation of Indian Publishers in 2004, a Consumer Court banned the sale of the book because it was found to be an erroneous reference with many factual errors. Monumenta Historica Britannica
''Monumenta Historica Britannica'' (''MHB''); or, ''Materials for the History of Britain, From the Earliest Period'', is an incomplete work by Henry Petrie, the Keeper of the Records of the Tower of London, assisted by John Sharpe. Only the first volume covering material prior to the Norman Conquest was printed in 1848 by G. E. Eyre & W. Spottiswoode for Her Majesty. It was reprinted by Gregg Publishing in March 1971 (). Petrie drafted the proposal to include all the references to Britain in the Greek and Roman writers, as well as general histories and annals. In 1823 the Record Commission, predecessor to the Public Record Office, gave the task to Henry Petrie. Classis Britannica
The ''Classis Britannica'' (literally, ''British fleet'', in the sense of 'the fleet in British waters' or 'the fleet of the province of Britannia', rather than 'the fleet of the state of Britain') was a provincial naval fleet of the navy of ancient Rome. Its purpose was to control the English Channel and the waters around the Roman province of Britannia. Unlike modern (and some contemporary Roman) "fighting navies", its job was largely the logistical movement of personnel and support, and keeping open communication routes across the Channel. There is no literary reference in the classical historians to the ''Classis Britannica'' by that name, and archaeological evidence is also tantalizingly scant (although tiles stamped CLBR are common along the east Kent coast and in London, suggesting either government buildings or an early instance of army surplus), meaning that details of its history and form are unfortunately based on a large degree of interpretation. ''Pentanema britannica'', the British yellowhead or meadow fleabane, is a Eurasian species of plant in the Asteraceae, daisy family. It is widespread across much of Europe and Asia, and sparingly naturalized in scattered locations in North America. ''Pentanema britannica'' is an erect herb up to 75 cm (30 inches) tall, with fine hairs but not the thick woolly coat characterizing some related species. Leaves are lance-shaped, up to 5 cm (2 inches) long. One plant produces a few heads, each on a long flower stalk. Each had contains 50-150 yellow ray flowers and 100-250 yellow disc flowers. The plant produces the flavonol axillarin. Medicinal uses ''Pentanema brittanica'' is used in Chinese Herbalism by harvesting and drying the flower. It has been used to treat sputum, as the Chinese found it to be beneficial when phlegm has accumulated in the bronchi.
