Bringing Up Father (1946 Film)
''Bringing Up Father'' is a 1946 American comedy film, based on the comic strip ''Bringing Up Father'' by George McManus, about the adventures of the social-climbing Maggie and her long-suffering husband Jiggs. Here, one of Maggie's society friends enlists her help in getting an undesirable tenant evicted, a tenant who turns out to be Jiggs himself. Meanwhile, Jiggs rounds up his friends from the bar to defend his turf. McManus briefly appears here as himself. This 1946 production is subsequent to a number of previous Maggie and Jiggs movies, both animated and live-action, notably a silent 1928 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film directed by Jack Conway. Frederick Alvin Kelsey (August 20, 1884 – September 2, 1961) was an American actor, film director, and screenwriter. Kelsey directed one- and two-reel films for Universal Film Manufacturing Company. Tom Dugan (1 January 1889 – 7 March 1955) was an Irish-American film actor. He appeared in more than 260 films between 1927 and 1955. He was born in Dublin, Ireland and died in Redlands, California, after injuries sustained in a road accident. Life and career At an early age, Tom Dugan's family moved to Philadelphia where he was educated at the Philadelphia High School. After leaving school, he tried three trades (shoe cutting, neck tie cutting and paper hanging) in quick succession but he had a good tenor voice, so he decided on show business. He appeared in a travelling medicine show, then a minstrel troupe before going on stage. He was a headliner for the Keith Circuit in America for several years. Robert Ferris Taylor (March 25, 1888 – March 7, 1961) was an American film actor and vaudeville performer. Biography Taylor owned a vaudeville company, the Taylor Players. Besides his acting, Taylor sometimes sang in vaudeville programs. A 1922 newspaper article noted, "he possesses a deep baritone-basso voice". The group included his brother, Glen H. Taylor, who later became a U.S. senator from Idaho. In 1930, Taylor went to Hollywood, gaining a few appearances in films in bit parts and as an extra. He eventually appeared in more than 120 films between 1933 and 1958. He also made guest appearances on ''The Cisco Kid'' starring Duncan Renaldo and Leo Carillo in the early 1950s.
