Brief Encounters (film)
''Brief Encounters'' (russian: Короткие встречи, Korotkiye vstrechi) is a 1967 Soviet romantic drama directed by Kira Muratova. Two women, employee and her housekeeper are unknowingly both in love with the same man, played by singer and actor Vladimir Vysotsky. Kira Muratova's debut feature film was banned by Soviet censors for 20 years before getting an official premiere during '' glasnost''. Plot After leaving their native village, Nadia and her friend travel to the big city. Along the way, Nadia gets a job in a teashop and meets Maxim, a charming and educated young geologist of whom she becomes enamored. However, Maxim already has a woman he loves, local district committee employee Valya. When Nadia leaves the tea shop and ends up in Valya's town, the latter hires her as a maid and puts her up at her house, while Valya is not aware that they love the same man. Nika Award
The Nika Award (sometimes styled NIKA Award) is the main annual national film award in Russia, presented by the Russian Academy of Cinema Arts and Science, and seen as the national equivalent of the Oscars. History The award was established in 1987 in Moscow by Yuli Gusman, and ostensibly modelled on the Oscars. The Russian award takes its name from Nike, the goddess of victory. Accordingly, the prize is modelled after the sculpture of the Winged Victory of Samothrace. The oldest professional film award in Russia, the Nika Award was established during the final years of USSR by the influential Russian Union of Filmmakers. At first the awards were judged by all the members of the Union of Filmmakers. Lyudmila Ivanovna Ivanova (russian: Людмила Ивановна Иванова; 22 June 1933 – 7 October 2016) was a Soviet and Russian film and stage actress, People's Artist of the RSFSR (1989). She was awarded the Order of Honour and the Order of Friendship. She composed many songs for the guitar. Biography Ivanova was born on 22 June 1933 in Moscow. She graduated from the Moscow Art Theatre School in 1955 and was accepted into the troupe of the Moscow mobile drama. In 1957, Ivanova entered the Sovremennik Theatre. Author of many bard songs, she performed in concerts, with Anna German, Sergey Nikitin and Tatyana Nikitina. Artistic director and chief director of the Children's Musical Theater Impromptu. On 18 March 2014 accepted as a member of the Union of Writers of Russia. On 7 October 2016, Ivanova died at a Moscow hospital, aged 83. The cause of death was not disclosed. ''Glasnost'' (; russian: link=no, гласность, ) has several general and specific meanings – a policy of maximum openness in the activities of state institutions and freedom of information, the inadmissibility of hushing up problems, and so on. It has been used in Russian to mean "openness and transparency" since at least the end of the 18th century.
