Briarton is an unincorporated community in Shawano County, Wisconsin, United States, in the Town of Lessor, west of Green Bay. History Briarton had post office, established April 18, 1883, and discontinued on May 31, 1904. A 1921 gazetteer indicates that businesses in the community on that date included two general stores, a saw mill, a store for agricultural implements, and one for soft drinks. Rural mail delivery was being done from nearby Leeman, and the closest bank was in Galesburg (now the community of Navarino). There are 72 counties in the U.S. State of Wisconsin. The land that eventually became Wisconsin was transferred from British to American control with the 1783 signing of the Treaty of Paris. It was an unorganized part of the Northwest Territory until 1802 when all of the land from St. Louis north to the Canadian border was organized as St. Clair County. Shawano County (pronounced SHAW-no) (originally Shawanaw County) is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 40,881. Its county seat is Shawano. Shawano County is included in the Shawano, WI Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Green Bay-Shawano, WI Combined Statistical Area. Lessor is a town in Shawano County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,112 at the 2000 census. The unincorporated communities of Briarton and Landstad are located in the town. The unincorporated community of Frazer Corners is also partially located in the town.
