Brian Turner (born 1967) is an American poet, essayist, and professor. He won the 2005 Beatrice Hawley Award for his debut collection, ''Here, Bullet'' (Alice James Books) the first of many awards and honors received for this collection of poems about his experience as a soldier in the Iraq War. His honors since include a Lannan Literary Fellowship and NEA Literature Fellowship in Poetry, and the Amy Lowell Poetry Travelling Scholarship. His second collection, shortlisted for the 2010 T.S. Eliot Prize is ''Phantom Noise'' (Alice James Books, USA; Bloodaxe Books, UK, 2010). Early life and education Turner was born in Visalia, California, and raised in Fresno and then Madera County through high school and attended Fresno City College before transferring to Fresno State for his BA and MA. Brian Turner (New Zealand Poet)
Brian Lindsay Turner (born 4 March 1944 in Dunedin) is a New Zealand poet and author. He played hockey for New Zealand in the 1960s; senior cricket in Dunedin and Wellington; and was a veteran road cyclist of note. His mountaineering experience includes an ascent of a number of major peaks including Aoraki / Mount Cook. His writing includes columns and reviews for daily and weekly newspapers, articles, given radio talks, and written scripts for TV programme. His publications include cricket books with his brother Glenn Turner, the former NZ cricket captain, essays, books on fishing, the high country, and eight collections of poetry. His other brother is golfer Greg Turner. Turner lives in Oturehua, a town of 30–40 people in the Maniototo region of Central Otago. He moved there in late 1999. Schoolyard Heroes was an American horror punk/alternative rock band from Seattle, Washington, United States, consisting of four members: Ryann Donnelly (lead vocals), Jonah Bergman (bassist, back-up vocals), Steve Bonnell (guitar), and Brian Turner (drummer). Brian James Turner (born 7 May 1946) is a British chef, writer and TV personality based in London. He appeared as a cook on BBC2's ''Ready Steady Cook'' from 1994, has appeared on numerous occasions on ''Saturday Kitchen'' and has also presented various other cookery programmes. Career Turner was born in Halifax, West Riding of Yorkshire. During his early career, his mentor was the food writer and broadcaster Michael Smith. Turner trained at various hotels and restaurants, including Simpson's in the Strand and the Savoy Grill, both under Richard Shepherd. Turner then went to Beau Rivage Palace in Lausanne, returning to Britain to work at Claridge's and then in 1971 the Capital Hotel where Turner and Richard Shepherd earned a Michelin star. Brian Alfred Turner (born 31 July 1949 in England), was a New Zealand football player, who was a prominent squad member during the country's first successful campaign to qualify for the FIFA World Cup, in 1982. He was assistant coach for the New Zealand national team that played in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Clubs coached Turner has served on the coaching staffs of Wellington Phoenix FC, Auckland Manukau United, Onehunga Sports, and Fencibles AFC 2013. Brian Turner (25 July 1938, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England – 27 December 2015) was an English first-class cricketer, who played in two matches for Yorkshire County Cricket Club in 1960 and 1961. Turner was a right arm medium pace swing bowler and right-handed batsman, who has lived for the bulk of his life Wath-upon-Dearne, near Rotherham, Yorkshire. He made his first-class debut against the South Africans in 1960, and the second in 1961 against Gloucestershire. In those two games, Turner took four wickets at 11.75, with a best return of 2 for 9 against the South Africans, when he took 3 for 17 in the match.
