Brian Turner (cricketer)
Brian Turner (25 July 1938, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England – 27 December 2015) was an English first-class cricketer, who played in two matches for Yorkshire County Cricket Club in 1960 and 1961. Turner was a right arm medium pace swing bowler and right-handed batsman, who has lived for the bulk of his life Wath-upon-Dearne, near Rotherham, Yorkshire. He made his first-class debut against the South Africans in 1960, and the second in 1961 against Gloucestershire. In those two games, Turner took four wickets at 11.75, with a best return of 2 for 9 against the South Africans, when he took 3 for 17 in the match. He scored seven runs in two completed innings, and took two catches. He also played cricket for Sheffield United Cricket Club in the Yorkshire League, and was the professional at Golcar C.C. in the Huddersfield League for several years - winning the league bowling award on many occasions. The Yorkshire ECB County Premier League was the top level of competition for recreational club cricket in Yorkshire, England, and between 1999 and 2015 was a designated ECB Premier League. Francis Irving Turner (3 September 1894 – 18 October 1954) was an English first-class cricketer, who played in five games for Yorkshire County Cricket Club in 1924. Born in Barnsley, Yorkshire, England, Turner was a right-handed batsman and right arm medium pace bowler, who scored 33 runs with a highest score of 12, for an average of 4.71. He also took two catches. Turner played for Scotland in 1935. His brother, Cyril Turner, and nephew, Brian Turner, also played first-class cricket for Yorkshire. Cyril Turner
Cyril Turner (11 January 1902 – 19 November 1968) was an English first-class cricketer, who played 200 first-class matches for Yorkshire County Cricket Club from 1925 to 1946, and one match for the Minor Counties in 1935. Born in Wombwell, Yorkshire, England, Turner worked in the South Yorkshire coal fields before joining Yorkshire, whom he served as player, coach and scorer for thirty one years. He scored 6,132 runs at 26.20, with two centuries, against Somerset (130) and Hampshire (115). He took 181 catches, and 173 wickets at 30.75 with his right arm medium pace, with a best of 7 for 54 against Gloucestershire. He took five wickets in an innings on four occasions. He won his Yorkshire cap in 1935. He was part of the team which dominated the County Championship in the 1930s. Sheffield United Cricket Club
'Sheffield United Cricket Club'' is the first sports club or association in England to bear the word, ’United’ in its name, common amongst association football clubs in England today. Sheffield United Cricket Club was formed in 1854, by several local cricket clubs in Sheffield uniting, thus the name. The inclusion of ‘United’ in the name also distinguished it from the existing and longer-established Sheffield Cricket Club (circa 1751). In 1854, M. J. Ellison, agent for the Duke of Norfolk, sought to establish a cricket ground in Sheffield. A piece of land was leased from the Duke of Norfolk. Local clubs were brought together as ‘Sheffield United Cricket Club’ to manage and play on the ground to be built on the land, with Ellison as President. Gloucestershire County Cricket Club
Gloucestershire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Gloucestershire. Founded in 1870, Gloucestershire have always been first-class and have played in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England. The club played its first senior match in 1870 and W. G.
