Brian McLaughlin (7 October 1954 – 13 August 2009) was a Scottish association football, footballer who signed for Celtic F.C., Celtic from Linlithgow Rose before going on to play for Ayr United F.C., Ayr United, Motherwell F.C., Motherwell, Hamilton Academical F.C., Hamilton Academical and Falkirk F.C., Falkirk. He signed for Hamilton Academical in January 1983 for a transfer fee of around £15,000 after having been made available for sale by his manager Jock Wallace Jr., Jock Wallace. After his playing career ended, he was a member of St Mirren F.C., St Mirren's coaching staff. On 13 August 2009, McLaughlin was found dead in the Union Canal (Scotland), Union Canal near Falkirk. Brian McLaughlin (born 14 May 1974 in Bellshill) is a Scottish former footballer, who most notably played for Celtic in the early 1990s, and was a Scottish under-21 international. Career Educated in Coatbridge, McLaughlin began his professional career with Celtic. He impressed as a youngster and made his league debut in November 1993 under then manager Lou Macari. He stayed at Celtic for another six years, with the bulk of his appearances made under Macari's successor, Tommy Burns. McLaughlin won his only major winner's medal on 27 May 1995, when Celtic defeated Airdrie 1–0 in the Scottish Cup Final. After a brief loan period with Airdrie, he left Celtic to join Dundee United on a free transfer. He then had a two-year spell in England with Wigan Athletic, where he scored once in a Football League Trophy tie against Oldham Athletic. Brian McLaughlin is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played for St Michael's and the Donegal county team. He won the 1995 All-Ireland Vocational Schools Championship. During the 2004 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, he and Eamon McGee were suspended from the Donegal panel for a breach of discipline. The BBC reported that the pair had arrived for a "training session in an unfit condition" on two consecutive nights, one month after failing to turn up for one session at all. McLaughlin's club have not had much success at senior level. They reached the final of the 2011 Donegal Senior Football Championship—their first ever senior final—but lost.
