Brian Fleming
Brian Fleming (born 20 July 1946) is an Irish former Fine Gael politician who served both as a Teachta Dála (TD) and as a Senator. Fleming was elected to Dáil Éireann as a Fine Gael TD for the Dublin West constituency at the 1981 general election, and held the seat at the February 1982 general election. He lost his seat at the November 1982 general election and was an unsuccessful candidate at the 1987 general election. Seanad Éireann
Seanad Éireann (, ; "Senate of Ireland") is the upper house of the Oireachtas (the Irish legislature), which also comprises the President of Ireland and Dáil Éireann (the lower house). It is commonly called the Seanad or Senate and its members senators (''seanadóirí'' in Irish, singular: ''seanadóir''). Unlike Dáil Éireann, it is not directly elected but consists of a mixture of members chosen by various methods. Its powers are much weaker than those of the Dáil and it can only delay laws with which it disagrees, rather than veto them outright. It can introduce new legislation. 1987 Irish General Election
The 1987 Irish general election was held on Tuesday, 17 February, four weeks after the dissolution of the Dáil on 20 January. A continuing crisis over public finance had led to the collapse of Garret FitzGerald's coalition government and the dissolution. The 25th Dáil assembled at Leinster House on 10 March and Charles Haughey was appointed as Taoiseach leading a Fianna Fáil minority government. The Cultural and Educational Panel () is one of five vocational panels which together elect 43 of the 60 members of Seanad Éireann, the upper house of the Oireachtas (the legislature of Ireland). The Cultural and Educational Panel elects five senators. Election Article 18 of the Constitution of Ireland provides that 43 of the 60 senators are to be elected from five vocational panels. The Cultural and Educational Panel is defined in Article 18.7.1º (i) as "National Language and Culture, Literature, Art, Education and such professional interests as may be defined by law for the purpose of this panel".
