Brian Dawson (general)
Major General Brian Robert Dawson, (born 1954) is an Australian museum administrator and a retired senior officer of the Australian Army. He joined the army via the Royal Military College, Duntroon in 1973 and was commissioned into the Royal Australian Infantry Corps. He commanded the Base Administrative Support Centre (1995–96), Australian Defence Force Academy (2006–07) and Australian Defence College (2007), deployed on operations to Somalia and the Solomon Islands, and was Deputy Commander Joint Task Force 633 – Iraq from 2007 to 2008. He also served as Director General of Defence Public Affairs (2008–10) and, from 2010 to 2013, was Australia's first Military Representative to NATO and the European Union. Following his retirement from the army, Dawson joined the Australian War Memorial where he has served as Assistant Director, National Collection since December 2017. Brian Dawson (football Coach)
Brian Dawson (born 31 October 1958) is an Australian rules football coach and academic. He is coach of in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) and is a Winthrop Professor at the University of Western Australia (UWA). Playing career Dawson joined in 1975, initially playing in the colts team. In 1977 he played the first of six league matches for Swan Districts, later playing seven league matches for . He also played a total of eight seasons and 134 matches with Osborne Park in the Sunday Football League. Coaching career Between 1988 and 2000 Dawson was fitness coach for the West Coast Eagles. He was made a life member by the club in 2007. Dawson was head coach of between 2008 and 2010, winning the West Australian Football League (WAFL) premiership in 2010. He resigned as Swans coach after the end of the 2010 WAFL season when work commitments in Japan prevented him from committing to full-time coaching in 2011. Brian Dawson (folk Singer)
Brian Dawson (16 August 1939 – 22 November 2013) was a British folk song collector, musician and singer. He was a member of The Meggies (founders of The Grimsby Folk Club in the 1960s), The Redwings, The Higgeldy Piggeldy Band, The Grimsby Morris Men, The Plowgild Folk Dance Group and The Broadside (with whom he recorded a number of albums). He was an expert in Lincolnshire dialect, and the Lincolnshire folk song collecting of the Australian composer Percy Grainger. He was friends with folklorist and collector Ethel Rudkin, who inspired his interests in folk song and collecting. He helped in organising the Cleethorpes Folk Festival. Death During a performance at Howsham Village Hall on 9 November 2013 Dawson collapsed with a heart attack.
